Why do people censor themselves?

Something that's always bothered my on forums, these included, is why people feel the need to c*nsor swearwords. Was there a 'common courtesy' memo I missed out on? I figure if you're yelling at some for misrepresenting your favourite Xbox game and fling so much shit at them that thier ancestors smell, why would you feel the need to suddenly protect them from the full force of your hate and bile? Are you doing it for yourself or other people?

I enjoy swearing, it's theraputic. And while, I dissagree with the shear volume of abuse that is imparted and exchanged on many forums, I think censoring your own work is fucking ridiculous. The internet is entering it's adolescene now, can we be allowed to swear without fear of being grounded?

Freedom of speach, People whom censor themselves have the freedom to do so, just as people can swear like sailors.

Edit: I swear when i think that swearing is deserved, the use of cuss words is not needed all the time and it takes away from their importance when you do decide to swear.

Because there's people who are afraid that they'll get banned for swearing on a forum. Last time I checked, you could swear all you want on this forum, but not as an attack on other users.

There is such a thing called "respect" that society expects you to exercise. Also, this site is frequented often by people who may not wish to read or listen to curse words, so it's being courteous to them.

*shrug* I still think that if people decide to censor themselves, they should instead find a word that isn't considered a 'swear word' to use. Adding **** to something just looks silly to me.

Step one, instead of 'ass', say 'buns'; like 'kiss my buns' or 'you're a buns-hole'.
Step two, instead of 'shit', say 'poo'; as in 'bullpoo,' 'poo-head' and 'this poo is cold.'
Step three, with *****, drop the T. Bich is Latin for generosity.
Step four, don't say 'fuck' anymore, cause 'fuck' is the worst word that you can say. Just use the word 'mmkay'!

I don't know. I myself don't like to swear often and most of the time instead of saying fuck when I'm thinking to myself, I say fudge. It's funnier that way.

I think swearing is just like lowering your self to the same level as a pile of shit. It just shows how fucking stupid you are. Its so easy to drop the f(uck)-bomb instead of actually forming intelligent fucking sentences.
