Step one, instead of 'ass', say 'buns'; like 'kiss my buns' or 'you're a buns-hole'.
Step two, instead of 'shit', say 'poo'; as in 'bullpoo,' 'poo-head' and 'this poo is cold.'
Step three, with *****, drop the T. Bich is Latin for generosity.
Step four, don't say 'fuck' anymore, cause 'fuck' is the worst word that you can say. Just use the word 'mmkay'!
Its easy mkay!

I think swearing is just like lowering your self to the same level as a pile of shit. It just shows how fucking stupid you are. Its so easy to drop the f(uck)-bomb instead of actually forming intelligent fucking sentences.
We shouldn't say fuck, no we shouldn't say fuck, fuck no!

Oh I swear alot in real life and I rarely censor myself when I swear here, but I generally try not to swear when I post. If every other f***in' word is a f***in' swear, and a f***in' censored swear at that, it really takes away from any f***in' validity of any intelligent post your trying to make.

You f***in' s*** eater motherf***er.

I censor myself when I don't want to swear, but can't think of a word that accurately describes the situation that isn't a swear word.

I'm not being a pussy, I just don't want to be crass. It's a cultural form of respect. I see no point in swearing unless I'm yelling at someone.

Plus, if you constantly use the strongest words in the English language, there comes a point when they lose their impact. I wish to reserve that verbal strength for when I need it.

Haha, that's what my mum used to say to me when I was a kid!

"People who swear just don't have a big vocabulary and aren't smart!"

I refuse to censor myself, because I don't fucking believe in it. No one but me has the right to tell what I can't read/write/say or do.

I will say, sometimes showing restraint shows the most anger. Like if you find yourself in the middle of a brewing fight, its not the bloke swearing his head of and telling what he's planning on doing, its his calm and level-headed mate sitting casually in the corner you should be most afraid of.

I still agree that censoring cussing on the internet seems like a lost cause that shouldn't be bothered with. They still know what your saying, writing c*** doesn't change what your trying to convey. And let's face it, it's the thought that counts.

Something that's always bothered my on forums, these included, is why people feel the need to c*nsor swearwords. Was there a 'common courtesy' memo I missed out on? I figure if you're yelling at some for misrepresenting your favourite Xbox game and fling so much shit at them that thier ancestors smell, why would you feel the need to suddenly protect them from the full force of your hate and bile? Are you doing it for yourself or other people?

I enjoy swearing, it's theraputic. And while, I dissagree with the shear volume of abuse that is imparted and exchanged on many forums, I think censoring your own work is fucking ridiculous. The internet is entering it's adolescene now, can we be allowed to swear without fear of being grounded?
Because there's people who are afraid that they'll get banned for swearing on a forum. Last time I checked, you could swear all you want on this forum, but not as an attack on other users.
F*ckin' A!

EDIT: So I don't anger the mods, I suppose I have to add something more than a censored word and a letter. I hate it too. It's not like we don't know what you're saying, there's really no reason to censor it. It does nothing other than make you look like an 8 year old who's afraid his mother will catch him swearing online.

Swearing is an easy way to make you come off twice as hostile as you might otherwise, so censoring almost seems like a silly countermeasure that could be remedied by, say, not cursing in the first place.
It's like saying you'll sleep with a transvestite in a bet with your buddies, but then you only end up giving them a blowjob - you want people to think you'll do it, but in the end, you're too much of a puss to actually go through with it.

...That was a terrible metaphor. Make up your own that has fewer transvestites in it.

I guess they are just trying to be polite. I actually find it really hard to read when people interrupt posts with countless ***'s.

...fuck hehe!

Maybe a person might just like the sound of a bleep, or the aesthetic of a jumble of symbols or whatever over the actual text. Maybe they're doing it ironically.

You did something there, and I saw it.

To each their own I guess.

Personally I have a tremendous propensity towards using every profanity humanly possible. I have been in trouble so many times as a kid for it. However, personally when it first started becoming a problem, My grandmother told me she was very disappointed in me for using such profanity because it shows how limited your vocabulary is. So, I ended up working to expand my vocabulary extensively... just so I could justify using profanity whenever I wish.

I think that is sort of the problem. Far too often, people use profanity with reckless abandon. I think this is very bad, Not for the use of the profanity but for the sake of the profanity itself.

I remember being a kid and girls would go ballistic if you called them a *****. Today, calling a girl a ***** is mostly frowned upon, but holds nowhere near the same weight it once did. To get that same level of impact today you need to use the word ****.

Look at Carlins 7 words you cant say on television from the late 70s-early 80s. Practically all, if not all from the original list have been said on television now.

The more you use a profanity, the more you diminish its weight and impact, thus nullifying the purpose of using such a word, as the purpose of a swear word is that of being an exemplative.

I dont agree with censoring ones self because you end up wasting time and effort trying to get a point across, but at the same time, I dont condone blind abuse of profanity because doing so only weakens the impact those words are meant to have. (Edit- Accidentally hit post trying to spell correct)

I'm not puzzled about why someone would choose to censor themselves, per se (My use of language varies depending on the context, as I'm sure everyone's does).

What puzzles me is why people bother to "censor" a word by replacing part of it with other characters. e.g. f*ck or a$$. It strikes me as so incredibly pointless. It doesn't change the meaning or intent of the message at all, nor does it make the word in question any less potentially offensive. It's like putting up a smokescreen... using invisible smoke.
