ME3 was okay at best but the ending was the nail in the coffin.
What really made me dislike the rest of the game was the feeling that all of your previous choices only amounted to some arbitrary numbers, that in the end only got you a 2 second-long bonus scene IF AND ONLY IF you picked the right ending anyway.
Here is a simple way for me to explain why I hate the ending and why it ruined the entire franchise for me.
Picture Harry Potter. You spend your entire time going through the books, reading his adventures, and you get to the end.
Only the end isn't at all what you expected.
How would you feel? Disappointed? Upset? Enraged?
I felt all these emotions as I went through the Trilogy and did all I can to protect humanity and all the other races. In ME3 I struggled to keep the Moral goals and to work my best to defeat the Reapers. I built an entire Army and Armada to fight and challenge this enemy.
Only to end up having three choices that pretty much screw over and piss on everything I worked so hard to try and achieve?
I didn't expect Shepard to live. Heck if I was given the choice my Shepard would have died, would have sacrificed herself to save everyone and destroy the Reapers.
I allied with the Geth. Sentient Synthetics that despite that "God Child" claimed was good. That wanted to live and work with others in a peaceful environment.
My only choice to defeat the reapers was destroy All Synthetic life? Yeah pass.
I fought hard to stop the EM from doing what he did. From taking innocent people who were looking for shelter from the storm that was the Reapers, experimenting on them to learn how to control them.
My only choice to stop the reapers was do exactly what the EM wanted to do? Yeah again Pass.
THEN there was the Assimilation option. Don't kid yourself you are doing EXACTLY what the Reapers are doing in the first place.
So in the end you are stuck with three options. The lesser of three evils. Have fun.
Please don't mention the Reject option cause that was just a slap in my face personally.
