Why do people completely ignore how great 98% of Mass Effect 3 was and just focus on the ending?

I liked Mass Effect 3 and there is one thing to say to everyone that won't leave the issue alone: SHUT UP! I'm mean, I'm serious here, please shut the hell up! The game was amazing and it had all I ever wanted from an amazing story. Just because you didn't get an erection from the final cutscene of the game doesn't make it a bad game. Please, you people are too over zealous in your opinion and wish on the name of Jesus Christ that you shut up and move on!

Oh for the love of... This thread again?

It's simple. You make a fantastic three-tiered cake. The first layer is amazing and breaks with the norms. It's filling, yummy as hell and even though it was big and delicious it left you wanting more. The second tier is even better. It's exactly what you wanted, a fantastic continuation of that first tier you enjoyed so much. The expectations of the third tier is now somewhere in the clouds, and for many it fulfills them perfectly. For others, it doesn't quite get where it should be, but frankly it doesn't matter. Why? Because nestled right on top of that third tier is a giant cow patty. After creating one of the most amazing cakes in the history of this type of cakes, someone pulled down their pants and shat right on top of it.

Guess what bit of it people will be talking about?

The really sad bit is that the turd right at the end of that third one sours and ruins the first two games as well. Playing them feels pointless and crappy knowing that it'll all end in a giant blob of feces anyway.
Why is every comparison a food or sex metaphor?
can't we think of anything else?

Damn straight! If we like a game, NO ONE MAY DISLIKE IT OR VOICE OPINION TO THAT EFFECT! (Mass Effect even. Eh? Eh? Oh shut up, that was funny.)

Indeed.

How dare anyone dislike a game he likes and thinks is "amazing". How dare they!

*sigh* 98% of ME3 was not great. The quarian/geth and the genophage lines, they were good, yes. The rest of the game? Mediocre. Even without the ending debacle, ME3 was hardly "great".

That's a silly question.

(a) Some folks don't consider the 98% to be great. (EDIT: See above.)

(b) The ending is the final impression, the taste that lingers on your tongue so to speak.

(c) The climax and the ending of a story are what everything before it leads up to. If those parts suck then I can't blame people for no longer being enthusiastic about the lead-up parts.
This is pretty much what I was thinking, the bold parts especially. Yeah, maybe the game was pretty good, but when the ending just dumps everything you have worked for (including whether you wanted to be a Paragon or Renegade) down the crapper, the whole thing just becomes one giant disappointment to me.

Alls well that ends well, as they say. It goes in both directions.

Put it this way.

Imagine you just sat down to a 10 course meal.

Every course is more delicious than the last.

You sit forward eagerly as the 10th course is placed in front of you, only to find a nice big dollop of excrement.

Those 9 courses before it may have been the best food you've ever eaten, but that of dollop shit is what is going stick with you.
I enjoyed the game, while not particually enjoying the ending, but would still say it was a great game, one of the best I've played for a long while.

So I guess I just refused to eat the last course, and left while it was still a fond memory? :p

ME3 was okay at best but the ending was the nail in the coffin.

What really made me dislike the rest of the game was the feeling that all of your previous choices only amounted to some arbitrary numbers, that in the end only got you a 2 second-long bonus scene IF AND ONLY IF you picked the right ending anyway.

To be honest, I found all of Mass Effect 3 to be huge letdown.

Even without the bad ending, I don't think that it deserves any GOTY awards.
I have to agree with this guy. I wasn't thrill with the other parts of Mass Effect 3 either.

Here is a simple way for me to explain why I hate the ending and why it ruined the entire franchise for me.

Picture Harry Potter. You spend your entire time going through the books, reading his adventures, and you get to the end.

Only the end isn't at all what you expected.

How would you feel? Disappointed? Upset? Enraged?

I felt all these emotions as I went through the Trilogy and did all I can to protect humanity and all the other races. In ME3 I struggled to keep the Moral goals and to work my best to defeat the Reapers. I built an entire Army and Armada to fight and challenge this enemy.

Only to end up having three choices that pretty much screw over and piss on everything I worked so hard to try and achieve?

I didn't expect Shepard to live. Heck if I was given the choice my Shepard would have died, would have sacrificed herself to save everyone and destroy the Reapers.

I allied with the Geth. Sentient Synthetics that despite that "God Child" claimed was good. That wanted to live and work with others in a peaceful environment.

My only choice to defeat the reapers was destroy All Synthetic life? Yeah pass.

I fought hard to stop the EM from doing what he did. From taking innocent people who were looking for shelter from the storm that was the Reapers, experimenting on them to learn how to control them.

My only choice to stop the reapers was do exactly what the EM wanted to do? Yeah again Pass.

THEN there was the Assimilation option. Don't kid yourself you are doing EXACTLY what the Reapers are doing in the first place.

So in the end you are stuck with three options. The lesser of three evils. Have fun.

Please don't mention the Reject option cause that was just a slap in my face personally.
