I don't know why, but i have been seeing anti-semitism in many forms lately, more recently on a baltimore sports radio station i was listening to this morning. Heres my question: why have people always hated jews?

Because after they escaped imprisonment from the Egyptians they invaded an entire area to live in and then that hatred lasted for a very long time through religion?

That's just a guess, I have no real idea.

Probably all the genocides aimed at them...

Triple post, man. 3 of the same topic :p

Honestly? I don't see any more anti-Semitism than I do anti-blacks and anti-Islam actions.

If anything, I see less.

The ancient Egyptians started anti-sematimism becasue the pharaho feared for his kingdom and others have feared the same.

Because we're evil shape shifting lizardmen who rule the world. But seriously, I have no idea either. It's always baffled me.

I don't know. I have an ample amount of respect for the Jews. I know that most people try to disconnect Israel with the Jewish population, but I think there is an unconscious link of disrespect, just like there is a link between many Arab countries and Islam or the U.S. and Christianity. Israel isn't very popular because of controversy over the conflicts in the Middle East, I think that there are a few people on the far left who hate on the State of Israel because they see it as a Jewish state.

There's my P.I. answer, people will hate it but there it is.

First off I'd suggest you ask a mod to lock/delete the other two threads you made (I assume by accident so no harm done).

I've actually noticed this too and I personally put a large portion of the blame on Borat. I found after that movie people started making borat jokes about jews, like mimicking his voice saying 'jew egg' etc. But now it's evolved past that to just plain Anti Semetic insults. Of course then the whole Gaza thing fired up again/now the boat raid and really people are saying more and more insults, just now they actually seem less funny.

Still, the Jew jokes are way behind the Gay and Racist jokes (especially the racist jokes) from around where I am. No one on tv will make a racist joke, but alot of just normal people do. The punch line of course boiling down to just 'he's black, laugh at him because he is black therefore inferior'.

Jews tend to hold on to their culture and religion, that kind of isolates them from the cultures that surround them and that breeds contempt and resentment in those surrounding cultures, it makes them an easy target, people find it easy to hate what they don't know or understand.
It's sad really.

For the same reason why racism still exists. People for some reason can't shake a feeling of dislike towards specific objects. For some it's food. It can be games, movies, music. Some just are that way towards Jews.

Sometimes there just isn't a good explanation for things.

There are a lot of people who try to be edgy and controversial, despite the fact that blaming the jews has actually gotten to the self-parody stage.

It also might be that the jews for whatever reason tend to be in better shape than many other groups, so its easty to hate them in that aspect. I think i heard that that was one of the reasons Hitler focused on them, how they had gotten through WW 1 ok and when the rest of Germany was in deep trouble, they were in ok shape.

Because it's still for some reason one of those topics you can make jokes about and most people won't get too up in arms about it. Probably for the same reason that you can make endless jokes about Christians and (most) everyday Christians won't get overly annoyed.

Also, according to a Jewish family who my family is close to (Oh yeah, I've been to a Bar Mitsvah for an Orthodox Hassidic Jew, it rocked! Booyah), The general Jewish custom is to be polite and self-effacing, thus when someone is anti-Semitic, you don't raise a fuss, which of course leads people to think it's okay. Some of this is just general Jewish custom, and a lot of the readings and rules they follow are about not getting in other people's way if you can help it (so I'm told, all the text is in Hebrew so I wouldn't know), and some of it is still left over from the Holocaust. In the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust Jewish people were still disliked by a lot of society (remember that America and Britain were also fiercely anti-Semitic at the time, the Daily Mail even directly supported Hitler in his quest against them until they learned just how far he had taken it), and they found it was just easier if they didn't rise to the insults and racism.

Given that that was only two decades ago, a lot of the Jewish adults today were taught this exact lesson from their grandparents or parents, so it's partly a general cultural thing, partly a leftover from general racism, and partly a direct result of the Holocaust and its aftermath.

Copy-pasted from the other thread I posted in.

Because they killed Jesus!

Seriously, that is the beginning of all the hate. Because of prejudice against the Jews after Christianity became a big thing in Europe, Jews didn't get the same privileges as Christians. However, that brought something good with it, as Jews could then get into the business of loaning money, a practice illegal for any Christians. Jewish people were practically "bankers" of the middle ages.

Ever since then, the myth that Jews are good with money and the like has expanded, all the way up until the 1930's. Hitler blamed Jews for trying to gain monopoly, and used this myth as "proof" for it. Hatred spread, and so the holocaust started.

As a result, Jewish people were given the state of Israel as a "sympathy gift" if you may. Of course, Arabic nations became furious over the decision, and wars broke out between Israel and several different Arabic nations. Israel won, and expanded severely.

Now the myth of Jews being good with money and the heavy controversy with Israel and what is happening over there is blending in to create anti-semitism.

I hope this has been educational.

They're the punching bag, I guess. Maybe some things are ingrained. I mean, I don't hate the Jewish, so I can't honestly speak from a learned position here.

OT: I'm no fan of religious people in general, but I don't dislike them more or less than any other religious groups.

Really? Why Jews?

People dislike members of every religion, it's not just Jews. Don't ask stupid questions.

Pretty much this. I think early on, like VERY early the Jews were treated poorly and looked down on. And thats just never dissapeared. It might have periods where it isnt as bad. But every so often a major event involving the Jews comes up and it comes back.

You can get into all the technical reasons for why people say they hate the Jewish population, but the truth is, if it wasn't the Jewish people, it would be some other people.

People, for some reason I will never understand, need someone to hate, someone to blame their troubles on. It makes it easier if those people have an ethnic or religious difference that sets them apart from the haters. People need an enemy that is clearly different from them in some way because no one wants to accept that bad stuff happens, and sometimes it happens to you.

So these people say they are poor because the Jewish people have all the money, or they make snide comments about Jewish stinginess because they can't figure out a way to save money. It doesn't mean these things are true, it just makes haters happier if they have someone to blame other than themselves.
