Because griefing wrecks the very point of the game, therefore eliminating the fun for everyone else.

Is this a trick question? The Escapist did a whole issue and an extra video entirely about why griefing is bad.
It wasn't saying all griefing was bad. There was the story about them hijacking the pirate ship and making people walk the plank and stuff like that in WOW. And by the time it was all said and done people were cheering for them since they had enhanced the gaming experience for most. They did also make a point about how some griefing is completely unintentional (the turtle on the beach analogy). For those who don't remember if I am playing escort the turtle around the beach and you are playing kill the turtle and keep killing the turtle I am escorting well you are griefing me unintentionally. Simply because we are playing 2 different games in the same game. You aren't doing it to be a dick even though I think you are. Although that is a different scenario than the shenanigans that go on in FPS type games (team killing, teleporters to no where and blocking stairs). Those are just full on dick moves and makes me wish more online games were moderated. Or at the very least griefer only servers.

Because griefers don't do it every so often, they do it at every chance they get. They may find it funny but I find it annoying. It ruins a good online match.

What in the name of delicious bacon is a Griefer?
I think it is people having fun in a mutliplayer game, at other expense. Here are some videos of TF2 "griefing", to beter show what it is.

I've seen those before, and yes, they are fun to watch. Would it be fun to be the guy stuck by the teleporter? Do you think it would be fun to be stuck inside the spawn room? People were going on to play TF2, not to stay in one spot unable to move. I highly doubt they were having "fun" while that was happening to them.

Bacon! (Timmy voice)

Translation: Give me a piece of bacon or I'll rip out your throat.

Because they're fucking rude. Got your jollies at someone else's immediate expense, and you're an asshole.

griefers are annoying. when you play as a sniper on tf2 and someone stands infront of your scope its impossible to get a good shot. that is one of the many ways to grief.

What an utterly stupid question. I wont even bother answering since it was answered in the first post. God some people are idiots.

Because some people play games to relax and blow some steam and when the griefers come they get frustrated/annoyed and explode with fury.

How can I describe what I think of griefers?

It's like entering a game of chess with someone who thinks knocking all your pieces off the board is a funny way to win. It isn't, it's stupid and immature, and ruins it for people who want to play more seriously.

I'm not saying games aren't mostly for fun, but I still feel a surge of hatred towards the guy who decides that gunning from below the map is a decent and fair way to play the game.

Here's a very simple explanation:

Humans do not all share the same sense of humour.
Thats exactly why I love most griefers. Yeah I get pissed sometimes too but its oftentimes so funny or innovative its worth it.
I'd like to hear a few examples of funny griefing, or some vid links, as I have never been griefed and am not sure exactly how annoying or funny it is.

What is an innovative way to grief?

I imagine teabagging was considered griefing back in the day?

Griefing is the gaming equivalent of egging someone's house or letting down their tyres. You might find it amusing, but for the person having to deal with it, it's annoying.

There. Don't you just love me more now?
No?
Really?
That's trolling. Griefing is where you go and find ways to mess up the game (usually multiplayer).

I can understand trolls. They're hate based. But griefing is funny sometimes.
Griefing is never funny for the person being griefed, or the other people in the game. The only people who get a kick out of it are the griefer and their friends. It's a disgustingly anti-social action that just ensures that games aren't fun at all.

To all griefers, if you want to be annoying, by all means, do it. But don't be coward and use gaming as medium, instead, do it right to my face. See how that works out when you're actually responsible for your actions, hmmm?
I had that once :D One of my mates kept killing me in Halo 2's co-op, so I punched him in the face and still wont play games with him :D

If I could, I'd do it to EVERY PERSON that did it to me. I just can't afford the air fare :(
