Why do people hate the humans?

It might just be my experience, but it seems that a lot of people I know, whenever they play an FPS, they never play as the humans, and usually I'm left as the only guy playing as a Human. Or when we're talking about some new game, I'm the only guy who thinks that the Humans are cool.

Am I insane, or is there something going on where humans are taboo?

It's mostly the "talking about a game" aspect. As a few people have already pointed out, few games do allow not-human players. But, like I said, friends of mine say "It'd be so much cooler to play as ___________ than as the Humans."

i dont play fps games where i choose if im human or not...

for rpg's however, i always pick human, or half human half elf, one of the two, i dont know if its just an OCD but i would hate playing as some alien if i had the choice between the 2-3

Shadowgate comes to mind. And in Halo MP can't you play as the aliens?

OT I hate playing humans. I have been playing one for 34 years and counting. It is nice to slip into a non human virtual meat suit to break up the monotony.

Because we are tired of seeing them? Let's be honest here, we humans are everywhere, and videogames provide us with the perfect way to escape our mundanity. If we are tired of seeing humans, we will not play a videogame involving humans unless we feel like it.

That is the series yes. There is an FPS/TPS for the 360 based on it. Strictly online (except for maybe the tutorial). It was near the 360 launch I believe when it was released. Didn't seem to do overly well. You get to play ogres and elves and whatnot. There is also some machina based on the game called 1-800-MAGIC which I did find funny.

It's been a long time since I played a game that had multiple races - not because I think your choice of subject is stupid but because I think most multiplayer shooters with aliens vs. humans in them tend to be average.

I suppose the last one I played was UT2K4... I always played Malcolm, who was a human, I suppose it was because I like the idea of a badass human more than I like the idea of an alien.

Man, UT2K4 was excellent~

Back when I played UT2004 I always used Corrosion. He was the most badass of the robots. But then, I couldn't play as Malcolm because I never managed to beat him in the tournament mode. Even on Novice difficulty. =(

Ya I know. I went looking for a link for Prime and was coming up with the game he was talking about. Took a bit of legwork to find the right title. Guess I should have just waited lol.

So was Shadowgate based off of the pen and paper RPG as well? I used to play it way back when and bought the snes version (which was crap).

Oh and TimeSplitters let you play as some non humies.
