That is exactly what I was gonna say. This is for rap as well with all the guns and hoes.

I literally listen to all genre's of music but rap and metal are what I want to listen to when I'm in that mood, I have no problem with it.

I agree with you OP. I listen to a lot of metal bands with the screaming but I never really liked the screamo style. It's nowhere as interesting as singing and it's really difficult to make out what they're screaming about.

I like to listen to classic metal the most, the riffs are more powerful and they have more variety. Stuff like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth and Ozzy Osbourne. So yeah, try them all out.

I don't really like much Metal that's popular and stuff, but in video games, especially GUILTY GEAR, heavy metal guitar rock is brilliant.

High-emotion music works great with high-emotion games. Playing something like Guilty Gear against a competent opponent with I-No's theme rocking away in the background is like a pure adrenal rush to the brain.

I love metal as I love alot of different styles of music, but yeah sometimes the "singing"/moaning voices can get a bit .. I don't know I feel as if your going to put the moaning deep URGH voice in it you've gotta try and hit some notes with your voice
Like Slipknot, mega URGH screaming but Corey Taylor can seriously sing and sing WELL
But yeah I love metal, just not as much with the seriously deep groaning vocal style when its used all throughout the song - can get a bit boring

I can't quite put into words what I enjoy about death growls or screams in metal. Something about feels much more raw than you get in other genres. It's a refreshing change from all of the auto-tuned artists you see these days. Perhaps refreshing isn't the right word, but it's a change I personally find quite pleasant. Also I don't quite see harsh vocals as lyrics, so much as another instrument entirely. Just like someone who listens to and truly appreciates violin can hear the notes, with me I feel that same way with vocals and the lyrics.

I dunno, that's just me anyways. Each to their own.

For the most part, I love all of the instrumentals in any sort of metal song I hear. It's loud, energetic, and just has a sort of ummph to it. The only probably I have with this is, that the vocals to most of these songs sound like the vocalist is possessed(which might be the point sometimes) or that they need cough syrup or something, and it kind of ruins the whole experience for me.
If you want good vocalist that doesnt sound like possessed then try old Nightwish with Tarja (new one isnt that bad either).
Anyway, I would say that Metal is fast food of music, its good but anyone can make it, theres just so much metal bands (or am I wrong?).

I can understand why some people do not like metal but i find it is the most diverse and most intresting genre(in my opinion). It can range from soothing to RAAAAWWWWW! On another note on the growling aspect. some people like it, others don't, simple. I feel that growling/screaming in many case is just more suited to the song and may not really work with clean vocals. My last point is that metal is fucking awesomeness, incarnate, on fire with boobs and cake. now reread this line until it sinks in.

I've moved on from metal since then anyway. I'd much rather listen to afro-beat, funk, soul, funky-soul and soul-funk now.
Nice. I'd like to get into those genres, do you have any recommendations for me?
For afro-beat it's hard to go past Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, for the rest, the Australian band The Bamboos and just about anything on Daptone Records, but particularly Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, if you ever get the chance to see them live, take it.

Watch 'Fight Club'. Replace fighting with metal music.

It's a boys club where you get to express aggression in response to the rest of your productive, socially responsible, anesthetised life.

Here's the stuff I like:-

-Stuff from when Heavy Metal first emerged
-Stuff from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden era)
-Glam Metal (Motley Crue type stuff, not enough cheesiness in metal these days)
-Tenacious D

It's mostly the British stuff, I think that a lot of the stuff I don't like comes from the US and mainland Europe, besides a heavy metal cover of Rasputin by the band Turisas, because when you've grown up listening to the Boney M version, it's just so funny.

I can't really agree with that, but I will if you tell me where the helmet in your avatar is from, because it looks awesome

Why are you picking on Amon Amarth??????

There are plenty of other metal bands you could have insulted.
What about the 8 dozen 'As I lay Dying' clones that have bred like rabbits the last 6 years...

Metal is strong, mean, deeply primal.
I listen to it to calm down ironically.
You want good metal, try Destroyer 666, or the Haunting.
Rape and murder. I love it.
Well... not the rape.
woooo metal!!!

Amon Amarth have some very good songs with very powerful lyrics. Some of their songs like Runes to My Memory can put me in a euphoric mood and other songs like The Hero can just stun me at the story being told throughout the song.

Status Quo are a rock band at best! They have no place in a metal thread!

I agree. I like metal music, but I'm really, really not fond of the screaming and guttural noises that the singers often make.

That's why I listen to metal bands that have singers who don't do that shit (well, one band I listen to does, but it's only in some songs, and for only a small segment of a song) like:

Alestorm:

Diablo Swing Orchestra:

Skindred:

Hail the Villain:

Okay, that'll be it for now. There are others I listen to, like Maximum the Hormone, Dream Evil, Fear Factory etc. But the artists I listen to many have such different genres of metal that it'll take a long time before I get sick of them, because I'm not listening to the same stuff over and over again.

And why do I like metal? I think it's mostly because it's so powerful, and because of the certain instrumental traits the genre has. The banging drums, for example. The fast shredding, stuff like that.

Probably been said by now, but Black Sabbath's vocals actually come in pretty clear most of the time. (for the 20-30 or so songs I've heard from them) Weirdly enough, I hear Ozzy can barely be understood when just talking.
