Hang on, you dislike Amon Amarth but love Hammerfall?
Your argument will forever be invalid.

There are so many different types and genres of metal that it literally makes my head spin. I personally am a big fan of metalcore which uses a lot of screaming/growling vocals, but if you want some suggestions which combine clean and shouting vocals to the most amazing effects then listen to...

Killswitch Engage
That should float your boat

Also Trivium use a lot of combinations of slow melodic clean vocals and heavy aggressive screaming vocals:

I enjoy the power of it.
It's very stimulating to me.
I also appreciate music in which the instrumental component isn't just considered BGM to the singer.
I loathe music that treats the instrumental component as if it was secondary.
I especially hate songs that doesn't even use actual instruments.

To each their own, in any case.

I listen to electro that is harder then today's metal. Metalcore is all trash vocals.

I'm not sure if anyone said this earlier in the thread, but if you want the "Metal opera" type, you should really try the first Avantasia album (not Scarecrow or later, because they are just crap), or Aina. While neither sounds like the song you posted, taking the description you did into consideration, you might enjoy these albums a whole lot.

So anyway

Avantasia - The Metal Opera pt. 1
Aina - Days of Rising Doom

The latter is more of a "metal opera" than Avantasia, but I'd say Hammerfall is closer to Avantasia than Aina in their sound. Have fun.

Because it sends shivers down my spine, and leaves me in awe of the musicians skill.
Because I can relate to the emotion.
Because one moment, it can be soothing and melodic, and the next, harsh and aggressive.
Because I look for more meaning in my music than "Oooh baby, yeah".

That is why I love it.

Because it's loud and the few that truly like it push it onto their other friends that it's good. It's rebellious and the new audience of metal is within the age ranges of enjoying things that are rebellious.

Musically, it's a train-wreck. I think it's more so a genre built off of a belief system, not the music itself, I think.

Personally I'd rather listen to orchestral music than the bellowing and caterwauling of somebody named "Ogre" who doesn't wear a shirt.
If you can call this caterwauling and a train-wreck, I pity you.

I personally appreciate the aesthetic of the growled vocal, especially when it's done as well as the guy in Bloodbath does it. I do think that sometimes there are bands that are really awesome, but would sound much better with clean vocals or without any vocals all, like Lykathea Aflame. I heavily suggest youtubing the both of them.

Yes, I already know there is a metal thread going on, but I'm wanting to ask a specific question with this one.

I know lots of people on the Escapist like metal a lot, and I also know a lot of other gamers and people seem to like metal a lot, and I'm usually one to equally accept any type of music..but metal just seems to be peculiar for me.

For the most part, I love all of the instrumentals in any sort of metal song I hear. It's loud, energetic, and just has a sort of ummph to it. The only probably I have with this is, that the vocals to most of these songs sound like the vocalist is possessed(which might be the point sometimes) or that they need cough syrup or something, and it kind of ruins the whole experience for me.

The only metal band that I have seemed to find that suits my tastes(I'm not sure if they are even metal), is Hammerfall. They seem to have exactly everything that I want out of metal. Kind of how like Queen has their rock opera take to rock & roll, Hammerfall to me kind of sounds like the metal equivalent, so...metal opera??

So to make it simpler...this is the kind of metal I don't like and don't seem to understand:

While this is the kind of metal I do like and want to know if there is more of:

So in ending, why do you like metal so much? and also, can you recommend any that is more closer to my tastes?

Bands like hammerfall (stuff I like :D) :

Pyramaze
Primal Fear
Blind Guardian
Dark Moor
Kamelot
Falconer
Heavenly

Bands you may like (stuff just outside that music taste you may like):

Dream Theater
Sabaton
Clawfinger
Disturbed (Although specifically the "indestructible album" they become almost a new band in this album)
Pantera (Some songs eg. Cemetery gates)
OLD Metallica (ride the lightning, master of puppets etc.)

I want to point out it took me FOREVER to get a song for each band!

The band name is in the title (but it is in order)

And why do I like metal, because it takes skill to produce (I am also impartial to classical :p)

The singing in the Death Metal section sounds awesome to me, it fits the style of music. Like the guitars and the bass it seems to have a lot of power. Therefor I can't stand the singing in the black metal genre. But it's always a question of liking or not.

This song is what got me into power metal and metal in general:

The reason? I was rather impressed the way they could play so fast and still drench the song in melody instead of just "shredding" away as fast as possible wihout much melody to it. Also the guitar-solos got me hooked.

This song is what got me into death metal:

The reason? Speed, brutality, theme and one of the better growls I've heard. You'll notice that this particular singer growls in a rather unorthodox manner which use the vocal chords more than what is considered usual.

This song is what got me into nu-metal:

... What can I say. They're just fucking Slipknot. I just like everything about their music.

This song is what got me into Grindcore:

The reason? Well for starters they don't take themselves too seriously as a lot of other grindcore bands does, but stick with making "grindified" covers of more well known songs in a parodious spoof manner. It's quite a chuckle to listen too, though many of their songs are in german so you need to study up some german if you need to understand them.

Speaking of germans, here is one of the songs that got me somewhat into industrial metal:

The reason, aside from them being awesome in general is the fact that the song really speaks to me on a personal level, due to my pyromaniac tendencies. (I guess some kids stop playing with fire and pyrotechnics sometime in their life. I never did)

Here's another song in he industrial genre that sort of pulled me in:

It's one of my more "sinful" preferences in the metal genre due to the very fact that Deathstars should be the kind of band that I would dislike on principle, but for some reason I don't.

Here's a song that got me into heavy metal:

Aside from he obvious AC/DC influences, the song kind of had that "upbeat" feel about it that I liked about Through The Fire And The Flames by Dragonforce, but in another genre of metal.

These are he songs that are the most memorable for "sucking me in". Since then I have branched out a lot within the respective sub-genres of metal and explored the origins of the respective genres (once you find something good you just want to dig up more I guess).

Of course, my tastes aren't really exclusive to metal (even if it does take up a large area of my musical interest). Other genres include punk, classical music, jazz, techno and electronica. Pretty much anything besides hip hop and RnB (barely anything within those genres I find interesting, and most of it I find to be utter shit).

Pop-wise I tend to dislike most modern songs, bu I do like a few spanning from the decades of the 30's,40's,50's,60's,70's and 80's. Some songs because they are genuinely good, and some songs more "for teh lulz" and thus make them good in a more or less "silly" kind of way.'

Don't know if this gave the OP some real answers or not, but at least I tried to include motivations for each respective song I linked to where it was possible.

Metal isn't my number one genre anymore, but I will defend it to the death as a genre worthy of respect.

You want more Hammerfall type malarkey? Check out one of the few (of that type) that I rock.

I hate a lot of metal out there, but I do quite like some of it. For example, bands like Electric Wizard, Tool, Tomahawk, Puscifer, Orange Goblin(though they're probably not metal). Most of the rest I find to be generic and pretty boring to be honest.

EDIT: Is this not awesome?
