Have you seen some of his older powers? Back when he was created I mean.

Examples- Super Ventriloquism. Super Weaving. Super Mathematics. Super Hypnotism. Super-Landscaping. Super hunches.

The list goes on.

I think it's a combination of a few reasons: 1-He didn't have to work to get his powers, 2-He's too nice, meaning he has no heroic flaws. 3-He's never truly suffered, meaning he has no personal issues to overcome. All these combine to create an almost Godlike character and some people do not want to mix religion and fantasy.

His biggest villain is an ordinary human. That's it. Lex Luthor has nothing special going for him and yet he is constant trouble for Superman. Superman is like the school yard bully and Lex is the dorky kid which everyone thinks is weird.

I don't like the character because I feel it isn't a well developed character/badly developed character.

you and all the other people who have said basically the same thing obviously don't read many of his comics

He's either God or a pussy. Not a very interesting story, "Oh, super man just stopped another train yay."

Funny people seems to think Supes is overpowered. I don't think anyone here know's what the Flash can do. The Flash is basically a god. He doesn't have to eat, Can go forever, etc.

Superman, superman, superman... Where do I begin with superman...

I know that it's stupid to rage on comicbook characters but I just can't help it: Superman is the most afwul and boring superhero ever. Why you ask? Let me count the ways. And no I haven't read too much of Superman comics so please correct me if I'm wrong.

1. Worst alien ever. He doesn't look anything like a alien but a human. Boring human. But with superpowers!
2. He's lawful good. He looks and feels too much of a "straigth edge american citizen" who fights againt enemies of democracy. Okay he doesn't actually fight for democracy but seriously: just swap the name to "Captain Dick Cheney -50 years" and no one notices the difference.
3. He's overpowered. You can't identify with him and so I don't feel bad for him when he's hurt but more of I enjoy seeing him in pain. That's not good thing with a SUPERHERO because you're supposed to be on their side, not on the bad guys side.

Sorry Superman fans but I just had to. I love this picture.

Because he's safe to hate. Worst he'll do is drop you off with the authorities. You'll be back out on the street next issue.
Walk around hating Batman, and see how many of your joints get dislocated the following night. Let alone if you hate Wolverine, Punisher, or any of the other psychopa- vigilante-style superheroes out there.

My dislike came from that cartoon series 'justice league'
he was always getting beat around like a ***** and he was supposed to be the man of steel.

He is actually my favorite comic book hero(after Deadpool of course but I like him for other reasons). I love him because no matter what he will not quit and even with all the powers he has he is probably the most humble member of the JLA. Also there is the world of cardboard speach

That's another reason Superman is disliked, his powers and weaknesses are inconisistent, like in the picture he obviously lost his faster then a speeding bullet power, and kryptonite keeps going from:instantly draining his powers, burning his flesh, slowly weakening him.

In a cartoon his flesh started sizzling when he touched Kryptonite, in the Superman Returns movie, he is holding around 20 tons of fucking kryptonite, and can fly while holding it, so two pounds before could drain his powers but 20 tons just makes him strain a little?

I wouldn't be suprised if the remake makes him just the strongest/fastest person alive who happens to be able to fly, and kryptonite makes him a cancer victim or sum shit.

The reason most people who hate him seem to hate him is that he is "overpowered" but he hasn't even been the most powerful member of the Main DC earths superhero line up since The Specter emerged. Everyone Seems to like Dr.Manhattan, and he is practically a demigod.
Yeah, but Manhattan blows the shit out of people with his friggin' mind, plus he has an inner-conflict about the value of humanity.

Superman's greatest inner turmoil is whether to have his stupid jerry curl on the left or right, he's the vanilla of superheroes.

Spiderman is a loser turned superhero with a hot girlfriend, he starts out an image of a nerdy comic book fan, then becomes totally bad ass, the audience relates with him to a certain point, and wants to be him for the rest. Batman hides in the shadows, a truly dark character as his parent were killed when he was a kid, and he's got a vendetta to clean up the city, not with Kleenex and a sponge, with bat-grenades and bat-knives and bat-whatever-else, he doesn't need any super powers to kick ass, he does it with stealth and bad assness.

Superman, however, is a goody-two-shoes reporter(few can relate) he has a chiselled body contrasted with lame glasses and a jerry curl (even fewer). He likes his fellow colleague, but, since he's an alien, it's kinda weird... (VERY few can relate). Superman fights crime out of no particular motif, he's just a goody-two-shoes, it's not like the criminals on Earth blew up his parents and what-not.

Lex Luthor is basically the only threat to Superman, and he's a freakin' amputee!

Yeah, I don't read the comic books, I'm a movie person.

but thats what made him great in a way, because he had a weakness. and that weakness makes him human. tho i do admit, the whole kryptonite thing does seem to get a bit old

I know he's a completely different person that he was in the Silver Age, but he was such a douche back then that it left a sour taste in my mouth. I see him in some Batman-ralated comics, but he's not as delectably ironic, magically uninclined, & self-loathing at Batsy. I love it when Luthor & the Joker bump knuckles though. I also really hate Superman's costume. & lastly, I mostly read Batman for the villains whereas Supermans has relatively few enemies who interest me.

I don't hate Supes, I just have shallow reasons for avoiding him.

I've no issue with him being "super" thats the premise. I just don't like the unrealistic way the character is handled.

Even in "The Dark Knight Returns" it basically mocks superman for not being a real person, and more of a pet, or subservient to his ideal of "right" and "just".

My real main issue with the character is that superman just seems a little well... lacking in intelligence. It may be possible he has no imagination like Steven Kings gunslinger Roland.

Responsibility is a big plot hole in the character superman. He claims to be good and just, bit if he is taking that stance, then every life lost to violence, poverty and disaster is his fault, through inaction. Like I said though, maybe the guys isnt that bright.

I don't hate him but I guess why people would dislike him is; He's too strong, never loses, boring, plain looking, doesn't have a very deep back story or personalty.

But I do sorta like how he starts to act with his encounters with darkseid, he becomes a bit more interesting then.
