Why do so many people on the internet like to characterize Japan as sex-crazy?

Because anime is from Japan.

And a good portion of porn is done in the style of anime.

Hence, people think most porn comes Japan.
That is a gross simplification, sir.

That's got to be the biggest "Fuck you, dad!" they can do. XD

If Japanese women even thought like that. I dunno. ._.
I don't think they do. They're often very close to their families. However, I do know that many families are nervous when they hear of daughters dating foreign men. That in itself is still a sorta taboo I think.

It's ironic that Japan has been having a decreasing birthrate for around 3-4 decades now. From what I've heard, Japanese couples don't actually have that much sex.
That's really fascinating because it adds further evidence to the idea that people enjoy doing things that are "off limits." E.g. In the UK alcohol is popular among teens because its taboo for teens to be drinking. Same thing with sex. Perhaps in Japan, if sexuality really is that common place then it doesn't seem taboo and so people don't get the same rule breaking buzz from it.
Perhaps. But, I still think it's more the case that men and women in Japan are becoming more alienated with each other, therefore, there aren't as many opportunities for it, or they're not meeting people they have a strong enough connection to have lots of sex with. And even when couples marry, it's almost as if sex is for the sole purpose of having children, rather than something you're supposed to take pleasure in.

Once couples have 1-2 children together, it really is a case that the father just works, works, works. I'm an English teacher at a private school, and it's almost always the mother that takes them to school. There are so many kid's whose fathers I've never met, and I've been told by my Japanese boss that the reason for this is that many children don't see their parents so often.

30 years ago, it was actually rather common for fathers to work and live in completely different cities, and only see their families on weekends, or maybe not even for a few weeks. Of course, things have apparently changed, and this isn't so regular anymore, but it's worrying that this was common place until fairly recently.

Kind of makes the game, Karoshi subtly horrifying.

Is that odd? Even though American dads probably weren't devoted to work to that extreme, I know when I went to school I never saw a dad there.

If you look into the context when I say that, from what the mothers have told my boss, these children very rarely see their fathers period then, yes, it is strange.

Going to school is every morning.

We teach 1 hour lessons from 10am to 7pm. Even during the evening, it's exclusively the mothers.

You probably said this already, but is it to teach English? Why is there such a hard push to teach English to everyone?

When you come from a society with a heritage of sexual repression, it's not hard for other societies to look sex-crazy. No, the real feat is finding a society where you say "God damn, you guys need to loosen up."
Saudi Arabia needs to loosen up.
I know, right? Let's bomb them with some sexual healing.
Why would we be banning an allied country? That's insane.

Where did "banning" come from? Do you mean bombing?

Most of what people know about Japan is from anime, video games and hentai. Also, they?re just more liberal about sexual content in media than us, as an apparent counter to their overall more conformist society.

I don?t know about the ?groping on trains? thing, but I doubt it?s as prevalent as the media reports. Japan?s no more sexist towards women than in the US. The biggest story about train rape came from India, not Japan, and everyone was against that. So, no, Japan isn?t a nation full of sexually deviant misogynists who spend all the times sniffing schoolgirls? soiled panties. It?s just a stupid stereotype based on limited observations of a foreign culture.

I mean, it?s like asking, ?Why do people think the UK is full of drunks??, or ?Why do people think the US is full of fat racists??, or ?Why do people think gay people are all effeminate?? It?s because of ignorance and misunderstanding. You want to really know what the average inhabitant of Japan is like? Go to the country and live with one of them for a while. Of course, not many of us have the money for that, so we just watch anime and conclude that we should carry around octopus repellent in our bag if we ever travel to the Land of the Rising Sun.

Japan, like some other Asian countries like S.Korea and China, are very competitive. Parents want their children to get the edge on others so that they can later get the best jobs. In Japan, they live to work. Everything is about getting the best job and being as rich as you can get. And it all starts at a very early age.

Thankfully, learning English at a young age is actually very beneficial. Most kid's absorb information like a sponge, so they learn very quickly. Not only that, but after the age of 7, it becomes very hard for many people to pronounce words from a foreign country very well. Therefore, if they speak it before that age, it increases them having the correct pronunciation in the future.

I was in Japan for three months over the summer and travelled to various different areas of it during that time, and I will say that "everyone is sex-crazy", as many seem to think, is a load of crap. However given that the most insightful production of Japanese culture is anime, and a lot of anime does tend to be... erotic to put it nicely (at least somewhere within in) then it's not an unusual assumption to make.

But it is like assuming that all Mexicans wear sombreros everywhere they go and Americans constantly have McDonalds in one hand and a Dunkin Donut in the other.

I think it might be because Japan might be a little bit conservative about things, like they constantly change terms for things like Deaf and other disabilities to make them lesser impacting, the Sex might just be because it's simply THERE, but they don't want to actively bring it up....it's probably some ingrained cultural thing in there somewhere, not something specifically about Sex but how they go about broadcasting it; ie it's simple to show, wave and even shoot a gun on screen, but stuff such as rape and whatever are toned down to TV-appropriate media from original things such as Manga, blood is OK, but appears to be heavily censored....seems to draw the line at decapitation though, but that might be some ingrained stigma or possibly it was too close to a potentially infamous murder case, perhaps?

The whole thing with Tentacles might just be because of westernization following WW2, despite the war affecting a lot of people, it did open up communications with other countries whilst also providing new things in the field of medical science (heard somewhere that some countries escaped war crimes by contributing their findings as a social thing to enhance things) they had to look ultra decent to westerners which meant that they had to blur things such as penises and whatever, though tentacles were fine...

...though to be fair, Tentacles may have been culturally artistic even before WW2 anyway, doesn't really mean a whole country is like that though, there's more to Japan....tons of regional differences and stuff, would be amazing if they had some common thing in the past.
