Movies made into video games. It seems that every movie ever made with a scene of action in it is made into a videogame. And most of the time the video games arent even good. There might be a few good ones out there but most people realize after there first couple movie video games that THEY SUCK!I mean do they really make a profit out of the games? It seems like no one even buys them so WHY!

Why do they even bother....

That is because the new Ghostbusters game wasn't a direct take-off of the movie. And that it was put under much longer devolopment than other movie games.

I agree, why do people bother to post something before checking if it's been done by using the search feature.

And yes, they do make a profit from them. If they didn't, they'd cease to make so many games based on movies. People buy what they're familiar with, and people tend to be familiar with movies.
Just because dedicated gamers on forums such as these doesn't like them doesn't mean that they're not selling them.

Goldeneye was pretty sweet too.

I agree, for the most part, that movies should not be made into games. The same goes for books to games, movies to books, books to movies, etc.

Topic has been posted over 5 million times btw, just letting you know before people decide to be an ass about it.
second.

They're getting better. They used to be absolute crap, but now most of them are serviceable games. Nothing groundbreaking, but still kind of entertaining.

There were actually a few good licensed games, such as Willow, G.I Joe for the NES, Tiny Toons:Buster's Adventure, and a few more that I can't quite recall at the moment. Also, don't forget that the first and second generation of pokemon games were huge successes and still enjoy a high level of success.

I think movie games are seen by the movie companys as more of an advertisement for their film rather than a whole different brand of media capable of making way more cash than films. Shame really it's as if to some games haven't moved past arcades and artaris and junk I never played on because I'm relativly a child... I heard E.T was a blast though.

Because its part of the advertisement campaign revolving around the movie. Most movie-games are shuffled out there quickly to be in time for the release there for quality suffers. Its just business.
This pretty much, they are usually crap because they get forced to get them out by movie day.

A better question: why do they bother making movies out of video games? Especially as Uwe Boll seems intent on riding that trend into the ground...

Funny, you people say "Use the search button!", but then when someone does and necro's a thread, you people want to get all bitchy about it. Really, grow up.

To the OP, why would you even care? Not one person is holding a bloody RPG to your head and forcing you to play them. Some people enjoy these titles. Hell, I enjoyed Transformers: The Game that came out when the first Transformers movie was introduced.

First of all, people do buy them (unfortunately.) Apparently, somewhere out there, there's a gang of retards who call themselves "gamers" who actually buy these crappy movie tie-in games.

The best way to tell whether or not a movie tie-in is to look at how long it took to develop and when the game was released. If the game was made in a ridiculously short amount of time and was released before or on the same day as the movie; chances are it will suck.

It's mostly because the majority of the people that make these topics barely add anything to the discussion. I wouldn't mind a thread necroed thread that made an insightful post, or heck even a new thread with one. The main reason I'm pointing out the search function is because it's been done in the exact same way, sometimes even multiple times a day.

No matter what you do, someone will ALWAYS make a repeat thread. Saying "Use the search button" is like taking a single fruit off of a tree and expecting the tree to cease the growth of fruit. =\

Simple. People buy these games so designers make them. It makes a quick buck and as Llewgriff said it advertises the film. So whenever a film is worth its salt, people make a game to go with it.

It's also worth considering the possibility that the people who often buy these games are most likely fans of the film. They don't care so much about the quality, more about the characters. Yes of course they prefer the game to be good, but some may be willing to buy a game of a lower quality than they would normally accept because it has their favourite characters in them.

Thirded. Only about Goldeneye though. Never played Ghostbusters. And I think if its done properly different forms of media(books, games, movies) can be interchanged.

I liked when they went back in time and made the Hitman movie into a video game.

No, it's like having a child ask you the same question over and over, and you giving them the same answers over and over. It's less asking you to not be you, and more asking you to not be annoying.

The little kids (force their parents to) buy them, regardless of whether or not it's a good game. The other day, I was looking around a game shop, and I overheard this kid obsessing over the Over The Hedge game.
