Why do We Drive Angry?

I had a bad experience driving today. Unlike most people on the highway near my house, I actually drive the speed limit. Of course, the Quebec drivers who come over to shop all drive like a pack of assholes. I was merging lanes when one guy cut me off driving at least 120KM/H and honking his horn loudly.

My first reaction was to shout "fuck you asshole!" in my car, and then I seethed for a bit since he nearly took me off the road.

Why the hell must people drive angry all the time? When they're angry, I get angry because they did something stupid, making me do something stupid in return. It's hard enough to concentrate on everything happening on the road without some jackass driving like a lunatic making it that much harder.

Some people drive angry because they're hoping that the drive itself will allow them to calm down from what they were previously mad at.

That is why I drive sometimes.
It's good to take your mind off things.

But I don't drive angry. I sometimes get angry at other drivers, but that is because there are people on the road that shouldn't be behind the wheel of a vehicle. I have seen a lot of stupid things on the roads.

It's almost depressing...

I think it has to do with the suppressed knowing that you could easily die while driving, and when someone screws up it puts people on edge. Fear can turn into anger pretty quickly.

And anger turns to hate. Hate... turns to sufferrinnnnnng...

People not using their blasted indicators. Should NOT be allowed on the roads.

Isn't it presumptuous to assume he was speeding due to anger? There are plenty of other things that could explain his behavior. Lateness, impatience, etc. could just as easily explain what happened.

I'm usually not angry when I drive, but I speed a lot on highways because most of them have absurdly low speed limits (55mph).

I love playing a game I call find the rabbit. Find the fastest driver on the road near you, follow as he will get ticketed first is you stay far enough back.

I also will slow down if someone begins to ride up on me. Especially if there is a double solid. Going the speed limit is usually enough to piss drivers like that off, but if I am in a bad mood I will go 5 km/h under and send them over the edge.
