Why do we enthuse Violence?

No, I'm not saying I hate violence, on the contrary, I love the Lethal Weapon movies, I love playing Postal 2. But what is it that makes us humans, want it. Need it. Put it in our every day to day lifes in almost every action we do etc... Why do we participate in violent entertainment such as fight clubs, contact sports, yadi yada?

What is your theory? Share with the class. C'mon now, don't be shy.

I don't know. People just like glorifying war and violence because it gives them a sense of being more than just ordinary I guess. It's a shameless excuse though but maybe it's also a part of who we are as humans. I don't know why people like beating the shit out of someone or even killing someone.

I think it's something more natural, more instinctive. We may have to kill other animals/humans for survival/territory as it's the most important goal to us, held over anything else. I think that even in current society, it still sticks with us.

No idea why humans like violence, but I can say that its not something to do with nurture.

I teach young kids to swim and they think nothing is more amusing than violence. Its odd.

Violence is an in-escapable reality for every animal in the food chain. OK, we've been pretty much near the top since the arrival of the spear, and you could argue that most societies have become completely removed from the natural foodchain altogether - but evolution has bred this capacity for revelling in conflict into us as a survival instinct. Problem is, the more this instinct gets pent up by modern living, the more it has to find other outlets. Or in other words - "The T-Rex doesn't want to be fed, it wants to hunt."

I don't think real life violence is a good thing. And I don't enjoy real life violence. I hate seeing anyone get hurt (ok, fine... very bad people sometimes has it comming...), but in videogams? I don't see the problem. It's thrilling to be "in charge" of something. Like deciding who lives or dies. Who gets the next AT rocket in their face (all of you BF2 asshats that use the AT weapons against inf, go away! Grenade spammers too!) and who gets hit by your car.

But what makes humans like violence... What makes me like it? Most girls go "eek" at the sight of blood, I don't OO

How many people do you know personally who participate in fight clubs? I sure as hell don't know anyone. I think you're overplaying it a bit. I certainly am not aware of myself putting violence into almost everything I do. If you think contact sports are violent I'd say you have a very broad definition of what violence is. The only sports I consider violent are those in which the goal is to incapacitate your oponent through physical contact.
