I do like how games make a quick-swap an easy maneuver, instead of paging through an entire arsenal, but beyond that, it's a terrible TERRIBLE idea. The thing is, 2-weapons really aren't much of a problem by themselves, but games are then designed with that limit in mind. You never get to the point of worrying about running out of ammo because there are never enough enemies to kill. You never are challenged with enemy diversity because the devs don't know what guns to expect you to be holding. Everything starts to become the same after a while.

I think half life 2 handled weapon selecting the best on consoles. Pistols on up, machine guns to the right, explosives and shotgun to the left and the crowbar and grav gun down. Best system, never ever felt cumbersome ^_^

The most recent game I played with a good system is Dishonored. Hold down a button to bring up the wheel, and set a few to the D pad. Elegant.

I feel that more games need to use the wheel system for consoles as if feels fine to me because I believe variety is the spice of life so let me carry at least eight guns at a time.
