Why do we have to wear clothes in public?

Here's an interesting question to examine why certain laws are in place and what constitutes human rights.

Basically if a person does not wear clothes, no harm will come to any other passer by. So why is it illegal to be naked in public?

contrast with, weed smoking (does 2nd hand weed harm people, will a stoned driver hit someone?)
abortion (will having an abortion affect the rest of society?), gay rights etc.

Well, people have been wearing clothes for so long that would be like asking 'Why do we live in houses?' We just do.

I am not clairvoyant but I can't See this ending well... But for reals, at first there might be many car accidents(people(guys(lesbians))) checking out nude chicks all over. Also, clothing offers protection, not much but enough. Also, clothing is a creative way for people to express themselves or their interests.

Simply put, this above all else.

We donned clothes first to retain warmth, and to protect ourselves from the elements of the world. When the ideal of humility came about, it became custom to cover one's genitalia. Frankly, it's not one I want to break.

For the sake of protecting society from the visual wrath of the ham beasts. There are certain people I'm sure you would never want to see sans clothes. Unfortunately, since there is no hope of creating an agreed standard of who should stay covered and who shouldn't, we are stuck keeping everyone clothed.

You can just put on a banana hammok and go into town. It counts as clothing.

Because in an unfortunately large number of cases the human body is a disgusting thing, and should be covered up for the sake of others.

Imagine if someone who doesn't wipe his ass well starts sitting in seats on the bus, on the train, on park benches.

Hell, imagine bumping into another naked person who had a contagious infection (STD).

To put it simply, because we can.

In Vermont (in Burlington), if you leave your house naked, no-one can do anything. You can only get in trouble if you get undressed in public.

so why can't we just cover our genitalia and walk around in our underpants? its so much more comfortable.

For me, at least, I need to wear clothes so women don't faint at the sight of my ENORMOUS JUNK!

....or it's because I be chubby and have stretch marks (sad panda)

Because in countries where clothes are not mandatory people screw like rabbits and get all sorts of STDs.

By covering up out bodies we can surpress urges (sort of).

OK, well the first part, its whats politically correct at this time. Like how people dressed differently back in the 1700s. Plus Unless you live in the equator, most days its not warm enough to be naked all the time. It would also increase the population and nobody wants more people around not spending money and taking up space.

Weed: no it doesn't harm anyone, they make it illegal because the government feels the need to protect you from yourself even though cigarettes are a lot worse.

Abortions: this is simply the conservatives' refusal to separate church and state. They can't imagine a government where the bible isn't followed and everything isn't treated with respect only until it's old enough to have an opinion.

"The government wants live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers" - George Carlin

I'm going to go out on a limb here and remind you to look into the difference between correlation and causation.
