That's not true, there are some people who barely lie at all, and even a few who never lie.

And I would suggest that if you don't know why you're lying then you shouldn't be lying.

Lies are needed for humanity to continue on surviving, deep down we are all seeking to do what is best for ourselves. Naturally if you state that and tell the truth that your only in it for your own gain then no one is going to help you succeed, no banks will support, no voters will vote for you, we need to put on a persona/mask so to speak so that we can work together build nations and enhance life and shit.

Basically to sum it up without lies we would merely be caught in never ending standstill where the world only becomes a better place for those who enjoy no change, but that in itself goes against the very nature of mankind, our purpose is simple to live for the future and make it better, our means to do so, lieing.

Well that's my two cents hope it helped answer your question if not soz buddy

I prefer the term "Bending the truth until it break!".
Anyway we do it because them believing our lie benefits us more than them knowing the truth.

Because if you never lie you'll seem a tremendous dick. Friendship, for example, is built on lies.

It's either we don't want to screw ourselves over or we don't want to hurt someone else. That's basically it. Being insanely honest about everything will get feelings hurt and people could take advantage of you too.

Well, if someone you don't like asks you to hang out with them, you're not going to say "No, I don't like you".(unless you're THAT mean)

You'd say something along the lines of "I'd like to go, but I can't. I have other plans."

I mean, you don't want to hurt their feelings.(or do you?)

Sometimes its to save yourself some trouble.
Sometimes its just because.
Theres a bunch of reasons to lie to someone just most of them arn't always good ones.

After you do something for charity like give a poor child a T-shirt he will now love and cherish what is said charity workers initial feelings, feelings of joy which benefits them. Charity workers do it because their work makes them happy, although some do it out of guilt
but hey I like to be optomistic and say it's due to them wanting to get that feeling of joy.

So yeah tis selfish of them in a messed up way but so is life. Not saying their bad just it's human nature we love happiness and you gotta do what you can do get it.

Oh and it helps you get laaaaaid soz it's just well it does girls love it, and heck even some guys love it. >.>

To evade telling an embarassing truth, or to avoid hurting people's feelings.

Lying can also be used to help someone's own ends.

If you're going to use such a broad definition of "self-interest" then your second point doesn't follow.

No-one's going to blame a charity-worker for doing charity because they enjoy it.

The majority of people lie. Most "normal" people. And I know why I lie, but I want to know why people overall lie.

Yes, but nevertheless, "most" is not everyone.
And, even though most people lie on occasion, I would question the claim that they lie "All the time."

Pick one.
Those are exactly the reasons to be truthful...works for me.
Do you agree there are some situations when lying is better?

I exxaggerated, and besides, alot of the people I know lie. It's not major lies. It's mainly little lies, like where their homework is, and the like.

I think the simplest answer to this is the fact that YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

You knew it was coming.
