title says it all, why do you buy games? Do you buy games because of graphics , gameplay , combat , story or a follow up that you need to play just because you played the first one :p

theres plenty to choose in!

Do you but movie title games, just because the movie was great?

Do you care about graphic?, is your game good in gameplay and bad in combat? What makes a good game? Whats your favorite game , and why?

What genre do you like? Do you like FPS's or JRPG's ? Strategy ? MMORPG's ? Fighting ? Sports?

Tell it here :)

If you refer to what motivates me to buy any specific game as opposed to why I buy games in general then I would have to say the following.

1. I am sure it will offer great depth and enjoyable gameplay
2. My freinds have highly recommended it.
3. IN some cases I will purchase a game just so I can play games with my friends etc.
4. It appears to be a very good sequel to a previous game I have very much enjoyed.

I don't have any specific genre's that I only buy etc, if the game is excellent then there is a good chance I will buy it.

If it ticks the following boxes I'm in:

[li]FPS or action[/li]
[li]Scores around the 8/10 mark up[/li]

I have to say I'm pretty shallow, I will normally just get the big games when they come out but I tend to research them pretty heartily so as not to be disappointed. But I don't tend to buy more than 3-4 games per 6 months, so I choose carefully.

Recent purchases:
[li]Fable 2 - Haven't had a nice RPG to get into for a while. Never owned the first one but reviews have swayed me.[/li]
[li]Far Cry 2 - Loved the original's style of play and expect it replicated but better. Slightly miffed that they dropped Jack Carver and the trigens, but whatever. [/li]

Planned purchases:
[li]Fallout 3 - Looks pretty awesome, may wait for a couple of reviews on it. [/li]
[li]Left 4 Dead - Zombies, FPS, online. OMG OMG OMG! [/li]
[li]Gears of War 2 - The first one was pretty good, will probably get it for my brother's birthday present. [/li]
[li]Dead Space - 'Not just Resi 4 in space', you know I'd be fine with the just[/li]

Here here!

But, primarily, I buy them as I buy books and DvDs, because X interests me, and is part of my interests.

I look at the storyline I like games that have deep story line that will keep me playing for hours on end.

Irony or extreme thickness...hmm.....
No, the games are made out of PLASTIC, not iron, and they're actually quite thin... okay, I'll stop it now...

Well, I'll play pretty much any genre that's out there...with the exception of puzzle games for the most part.* I just try to pay attention to what's coming out soon and pick up a couple titles at a time of what interested me the most.

The unusual thing about the way I buy games though is that I don't review hunt before buying a game, and generally do very little research before purchasing. If I come across articles about a game I'm interested in I read them, and usually this is enough, since games that truly disappoint tend to generate articles and forum posts about them. Some would call this foolish consumer practice, but it works pretty well for me.

I never even play movie title games though, unless you count Star Wars games, of which I've played many. (The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series are still some of my favorite games of all time).

FPSs and RPGs usually... For me, I'm just motivated by if it's fun. I buy retro arcade games on the XBL Marketplace all the time, and regardless of graphical pleasure, I try to buy what I have fun with. I'm beyond done with all of the achievements for Team Fortress 2 in the Orange Box, and yet, I continue to play almost daily.

I buy the game if I like it as a whole. I am most lenient in graphics and controls, but I will not buy a game which's story does not compel me to buy it (in case of games with a story). I will buy Tycoon type games cause I love em.

No

I care about graphics, but not too much... as long as it's not pixelated. Gameplay and combat kinda go hand in hand. If the controls are good the combat will rule. if the controls are bad, combat will suck.
A good game is made firstly by a good story, then a good control system, graphics and soundtrack in that order. Favorite game of all time is Baldur's Gate II. It reached the balance of all the aforementioned terms for its era.

What genre do you like? Do you like FPS's or JRPG's ? Strategy ? MMORPG's ? Fighting ? Sports?
RPGs are my favorites (Baldur's Gate series, Knights of the old Republic series, Neverwinter nights 2, Gothic I and II are among the best) along with Strategies (StarCraft, Cossacks, Supreme Commander), Simulators (Silent Hunter III/IV, F22 Lightning 3, X3 Reunion/Terran Conflict), Tycoons (Railroad Tycoon II/III, Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Roller coaster Tycoon) . FPS (Half Life series is the best) are around the bottom in my preference.

Story and gameplay pull me. Though, lately, the former has been lacking in most games. Gears got me because of the gameplay. FFVII got me for story.

Usually because its a sequel to a game I love

or because I saw a fantastic Gameplay video

Reviews often help push me into buying a game sometimes

Because I'm too cowardly to steal them.

Seriously though, I buy them to indulge myself. I sometimes really feel like an addict getting his fix when I shop for games. I even get the feelings of regret a drug addict gets after spending cash on his drug of choice. It feels like a waste but at the same time I can't stop myself from driving to the gamestore at least once a month.

I'm not someone who's after the latest and greatest though. I like to buy games when they have matured enough so they are placed in the bargain bin. I usually buy more then one game at a time as well.

I wuv you. And yes, I typed 'wuv'. The Baldur's Gate series, for me, is probably not only the best western RPG, but has the best story across the two games and their respective expansion packs. That game got me into RPGs and I haven't left yet. Sweet.

On topic, I completely agree with the order mentioned above (Story, control system, graphics, soundtrack), although I really enjoy a good soundtrack (BG wins there too!). Story is crazy important. If I don't care about the main character or their goals, I can't be bother to find out what happens...cause I don't care.

I would also add 'replayability' to the list. I replayed the BG series more times then I can count. If a game gets me to play through the whole thing again, and have fun doing it, then I feel I got my money's worth.

When I buy a game for full price, it has to have at least 8/10 and either a stunningly good singleplayer option or splitscreen. It also has to appeal to me of course. I wouldn't buy a racing game at full price unless it's very VERY good (as in, 9/10 or higher) and has splitscreen multiplayer.

I buy games for gameplay. It is the only thing i look for.
I care about graphics in as much "i can know what's going on." I can do 8-bit or atari, nethack not so much.

I mainly play RPGs(ff1ish preferred low plot dungeon crawlers), Strategy games, beat em ups and platformers.
My favorite game of all time is the original Master of Orion. It's quite deep despite it's simplicity and doesn't fall into micromanagement hell.
