for me i think its the customization, and the free world-ness. lol. i think games were meant to have fun and do things u cant in real life. so when it comes to rpgs/mmorpgs, its always fun to have a little mini-me running around cutting people's heads off or shooting up some huge baddass alien monster.

your thoughts on why everyone loves a good rpg?

not to mention the stories too :p

RPG is such a broad word. What exactly do you mean?

Oh and not everyone "loves a good rpg".

Sometimes I want to blow people up while micromanaging ten other fake people.

Those times are the times I pop in a good ol' JRPG.

I've always loved, really loved, the stories in JRPGs
WRPGs just have that open world, do-whatever-you-want aspect to them, with missions, exploration, discovery, it's just exciting

Freedom. The ability to grow and develop your character how you want. That feeling of success when you look at your massively-increased stats.

I like RPGs because I find they deliver the story in the best possible way, and I highly enjoy having to think instead of just "Hacky-hacky stab-stabbing" my way through a game.

Choice of gameplay. Either I can be a boring swordsman with heavy armor and follow the storyline, or I can mix it up and be a mage that uses a variety of spells while inflincting the enemy with status ailments.

So yeah, for me a good RPG combines choice of gameplay style along with choice of pacing, I don't give a shit about how the story is "paced". If I can take a break from the main storyline and do some side quests while bulding up my character's stats then it is already a decent RPG imo.

Because I can make my own character, decide how I want to act and fight, go wherever I want to go, decide how I want to solve my problems, choose who I want to live and die, and the game keeps me playing for more than the 2 hours it takes to beat the linear FPSs.
