Why do you play video games?

Is it to have fun? Really? Video games are supposed to be fun right? So why can I not remember the last time I actually enjoyed gaming? All I can recall is the hours of frustration of getting killed by whatever, or being stuck on a difficult puzzle. Gaming has become something of a habit for me, and I'm finding it harder and harder to justify it.

I play games for:

Fun
Story
Relieve stress
relieve boredom
procrastinate

That pretty much covers it all.

Have you ever executed a plan perfectly, and watch as the enemy flees, only to be snared by your trap?

It's very satisfying.

I play for two reasons. One is fun, the other is a challenge. For example I play Borderlands and Mount and Blade for the former and MW2 and Audiosurf for the latter.

Mostly to have fun, but also for the challenge of finishing something that's difficult. I try not to get frustrated with games because they don't have any real bearing on my life so i'm usually ok with getting stuck.

I play games to either kill time, when i am alone,
or to actually have fun when i am with friends
whether you have fun with a game o you just use it to kill time is dictated by the amount of persons you are playing with (of course talking about games with multi-player capabilities)
when it comes to gaming the saying is true "the more the merrier"
however without other people i manly play games when i have nothing better to do or while i am waiting for something/one
there are ceartain exceptions to this in where you can have fun playing by your self
the example that sticks out in my mind is assassin's creed 2

Because... they're fun? Do I win?

Mostly because I don't have a life. Basically there is nothing to do when I'm not at school, church, or with my band so I just play games. They're a nice little hobby.

Because nothing can tell a story in the same way that video games can.

That's the very short version.

I know the feeling, I felt the same from my WoW play time.
Once daily quests came in it just felt like I was doing work and I hate work!

I play to escape, to experience a story. To do things that I couldnt in real life.
Of course also for fun, specially with friends alcohol and a Rock Band session

I play games because they're fun, and they've become a pretty deep-rooted part of my life.

Thirteen years doing the same thing everyday will do that to you.

Fun and fun alone. If I'm not having fun, I quit and resell it as soon as possible. I don't approach games in the same way I do books, that is never going to change.

I play because I am a pretty average person who can't do much and I play games to do things I usually can't like killing some hookers, just kidding... but not really
