I don't need to have things popping out at me to like a movie, and I certainly don't want to pay $12 to see some movie that needs to compensate shitty acting and direction with some dumbass gimmick that will just die off when the audiences pull their heads out of their asses.

I have seen a couple of movie in 3d and I felt like it adds nothing but very few cool scene to watch, beside that the rest of the movie is not different at all beside seeing some extract depth when 2 person talk to each other wich is useless. I find that every god damn compagny now have to jump on the bandwagon of this gimmick just to make extra bucks out of their movies.
3D is maybe great if you look a movie in full CGI or something similar (toy story 3?) but all the 3D we have now is added to the movie not filmed in 3D wich is like a thousand mile different.
For me I dont mind much paying that extra 3$ if I dont want to wait or go like 15 miles away just to get that theatre with the standard 2d version of a movie I would like to see since I dont go to theatre often but I would otherwise be not ovewhelmed by an almost useless upgrade of movie that were already great.

"If its not broke, don't fix it" resume it.

Its not that its a gimmick or anything its just that there is an oversaturation of 3D movies and by the looks of it games. I like 3D movies....when done right. It can be easily seen that any movie that involves CGI effects is getting a 3D release. Thats fine for Avatar and Toy Story 3 but when you have a lack of actual 3D (Last Airbender) or just have 3D cuz its the "hot" thing right now (recently Yogi Bear, I mean seriously) then it starts crossing over into the annoying/aggravating area. Yes its innovative and it pushes the medium but the problem is that they just put 3D in movies to try and weasel some extra cash out of people.

I loved it in Avatar, where the 3D added depth to the scenes, such as making a long corridor stretch out in front of the viewer, or a certain piece of scenery/actors appearing closer than the rest. In that situation, it immerses the audience. However, just like the last time 3D was a big deal, the majority of movies are "OMG SOMETHING'S COMING RIGHT AT YOU LOLOLOL".

Which is stupid.

i don't hate it, it's just that the gimmick wears off after 20 odd minutes and then all you've got left is a bland shitty feature presentation. It's a pointless innovation that only the superficial and generally stupid people can like because that kind can be amused more easily and since the world is going that way, heck, why not exploit it

People are greedy and they want to make money on the "next big thing". So I don't buy stuff that makes them think they can have a "get rich quick" scheem though scamming me and many other good people out of they're hard earned money.

because it's nothing more than a gimmick intended to try to keep the cinema relevant in a time when everyone has their own home theater system.

Yep. That's where I stopped reading. One whole sentence in, and already you're insulting people. Incredible.

I haven't seen any hate towards it for some reason, in fact I haven't seen really any discussion about it anyway.

I quite like 3D myself.

It's shit.
The stupid glasses are shit.
It gives me a pounding headache, that's shit.
The effect is underwhelming, infact it's shit.
All the hype about 3D is irritating, shit even.
By the way, it's shit. End of discussion.

But after I saw Toy Story 3 and that fourth Shrek movie and there were flying scenes added to the movie only to add 5 dollars to my ticket- It totally lost it's appeal.

It's a fun gimmick when used in moderation.

That line was crossed a little while back, and it's pitiful to see it continue.
Every movie does not benefit from 3d.

I like 3D. Just don't make me spend thousands of quid for a 3D TV and then make me watch using them daft glasses.

3D in films and games however is getting tiring. 80% of the films/games with 3D, don't exactly need them, especially things like Megamind or Black Ops. Something built EXACTLY FOR 3D like Avatar is what we need more of.

Once in a while its alright. But it depends of what I'm watching.

Avatar's 3d was great. Using the 3d for depth as opposed to gimmicky pop outs was something i was really pleased with. But to many movie's use 3d for just that, pop outs. They are annoying, unneeded, and well...gimmicky.

Also the movie/game has to be built around it. What i fear is old movies remade for 3d at home. I've seen it happen with blue-rays before and i don't want to see it again. Seriously, putting The Road Warrior in Blue-ray didn't help the movie at all.

Also, wearing glasses over glasses is uncomfortable.

its too expensive and cumbersome and it makes our movies worse AND more expensive to view because the damn studios all wanna get a little piece of this "3d Craze" before it dies away (and oh GOD do i hope it does soon) so they make their movies to cater to 3D audiences first and the 2d second. then more theaters show the 3d than the 2d and we're all fucked up the ass with the prices of the tickets

plsu there's those of us who can't see shit without our glasses, so putting on those fucking little cardboard glasses means we'll have to take off our regular ones or risk discomfort on a level that takes us COMPLETELY out of the movie so we can't enjoy it one bit...

It is a tool.
Tools can be used in a variety of ways.
You can choose the gimmick road, plaster "3D" over everything to attract attention, or you can choose the awesome road, use it appropriately, to set the mood, to set the scale, you can do great things with it!
HOWEVER: the movie industry sees it as "With Great Power, Comes Great Gimmicks".
When will they realize that 3D works best when sucking people in, rather than punching them in the face?

It hasn't done anything against me.

Wow, that's some outrageous generalisation right there...

Meh, I don't hate it, I just think it's unnecessary.
I agree with how most people are saying it's not so good and etc, but this is exactly what I was going to say. For me it really just doesn't add anything extra.
The only thing it adds to my viewing experience is a headache.
I often worry about getting the headaches considering I already wear glasses. Has yet to happen but I suspect it will.

I don't hate it, but I just don't think it's all its made out to be. Having seen some movies on the big screen in 3d I wasn't wowed at all, more of a meh reaction.
