I WANT TO BE YOU.

OT: I enjoyed it, each to their own I guess
Yeh, it was Eurogamer in London, from what I played, it changed my opinion on the game.

You don't like a popular game, we get it.

We don't need a new thread every time someone disagrees with the majority.
Oh look it's another person who either can't or won't read, there's a lot more going on than "I don't like game" thing is I do like it but only find it to be okay, not amazing, you'd know this if you actually read through some of the thread instead of just posting 4chan pics like they're still witty. You'd also notice I'm getting some advice on installing mods to improve said game. If it was as simple as not liking the game one bit I wouldn't make a thread about it otherwise I'd spend all day every day making pointless threads about games I don't like becuase trust me there's a pretty big stack of them.

I did read it, and my point still stands.

Don't want people posting that type of thing? Don't title your threads 'why does everyone but me seem to love X'.

Your just as much to blame for those comments by giving your a thread a title that screams for attention.

I also thought the melee and magic were crap. But I really enjoyed playing a thief-type.

I can't say I hate Oblivion but coming from Morrowind I was disappointed.

One thing that I hate about Oblivion more than anything is not being the main hero. You are just the "champion" of the true hero of that game and that killed all immersion for me. It's kinda like well I could just walk away and then you'd have to find someone else to do all your dirty work.

Also the level scaling, monsters get to the point where they can kill guards without breaking a sweat so you are forced to do the story quest first before things get too ridiculous for the annoying inevitable escort quests. And on that note any battle with two or more friendly npcs on my side always ended with them running in front of my sword and dying.

I did like the Shivering Isles though.

Was, was it, brilliant?
Well it's a million times better than Oblivion in such a way that Bethesda redeemed themselves.

The Melee feels powerful instead of 'choppy, choppy air'.
The Magic is spectacular, the mixing works incredibly well.
The Thievery/Rogue traits all have their own advantages as caves/dungeons aren't quite so naked of hiding space anymore.

The game really stands with it's promises of being an incredible piece of work, it might as well go grab GOTY now.

Prepare to get raged on by the OP.

I got told off for using a similiar picture.

Didn't play Oblivion, played Morrowind back in the day. It was ok, even though highly overrated, considered to be a masterpiece by most. To me it was just ok, no more, no less. The only features I really liked were the custom spells and skill-based system. It was brought down by the fact that you could become an "uomo universale" by the end of the game with maxed everything including stats, which kinda defeats the purpose of having both classes and races. The only useful race was Bretons, due to the more potent mana regen they had and if you picked any other, you were basically screwed since their stat bonuses didn't add above the maximum of 100 which was reachable on all the races, given you played your cards right and only rested once you reached a maximum stat increase per level.

The fact I'm telling you all this is because public opinions often tend to go onto extremes, such is the case here. I can say I am guilty of this as well sometimes, part of being human I guess.

You're not alone. You're never alone. I never really got into Oblivion either. I can't really put my finger on why though. I guess the world just didn't grab me. I know there's a rich lore in it and all, but it just wasn't there for me, it couldn't draw me in like Fallout 3 did. I'm still playing Fallout 3. I only fire up Oblivion every once in a while to make some nice screenshots of my character.

I seriously see this thread every single week, if not often. It's called opinions, deal with them. I like love the game, others don't.
I respect your opinion, however.

While fallout 3 was overall a much better game than oblivion. I think oblivion was the game that sort of set the tone for the action RPG. Not like Kotor where you pause the game every two seconds to switch characters. Fallout improved on what oblivion started. And while oblivion was not perfect it was still an amazing game

the all powerful entity known as oblivion manifests itself in the form of a mighty giant to bellow heartily at your feeble attempts to dispute its supremacy.

but seriously why make this thread now, half a decade after oblivion is released, if you were on the bandwagon from the start? i know why! because you never did play oblivion and the insane hype surrounding skyrim caused you to ask where it all comes from, and then discovering oblivion and judging it by recent standards you have chose to dismiss it as not worthy of your interest, and for that sir i pity you

I played it when it first came out and didn't like it much, it has been years since I even touched it, Skyrim and the anticipation I have for it got me thinking about Oblivion again and how really the hype kinda disappointed me back then but after reading some of the more helpful replies in this thread I'm actually going to give it another go after modding the crap out of it.

As for basically calling me a liar, screw you.

because people that don't like or are indifferent about a game tend to be way less vocal. And the game is decend enough to not generate the kind of hatred most rants are made off

so most of the posts you read will likely be positive, but hold that against the total amount of users and you will probably have only a small percentage of praise compared to the entire community :p

Well the one true reason I liked Oblivion is I can get immersed in my character, which makes the game 10 times as fun. If you can't it's just English country side, a way to short main story, easy dungeons, lackluster side quests.
The Thieves Guild was the only faction that was any real fun to me.

Really hope the notch is turned up in Skyrim.

When I first played oblivion (this was when it was first out) it was awesome. By that point the only xbox 360 games I'd had were COD2, uhm... Ghost Recon and some racing game. All of em seem less great now that newer and shinier things have come along- GR was pretty terrible even then- so...

Oblivion, now? It doesn't seem so great either, but I still find interesting new ways to build characters. I've got a sorceress who fights purely by setting enemies against each other, fearing them away from her and occasionally just straight up murdering them to death with magic. It makes for much more interesting combat. If you go into the game, pick up a sword and just continue bashing away for the whole game then I can see how you'd get bored fast.

Try playing around with lots of combinations of abilities and characters and you may still find something interesting, even in vanilla. Get some mods and things can improve further.
