It also takes away from people who like to explore levels.
How so?
Well people used to have to explore because they had to for health reasons. Without regenerating health you can always use health as a reward for good explorers and various other secrets for great explorers (which will be found as a consequence of looking for health). You can't really do it when people have infinite health and you can only reward people with weaponry so much.
Well I'll see you regenerating health and raise you a save-scumming. Regenerating health gets tiresome, but I'd rather have that than breaking flow after every encounter to make a new savegame, just in case at any point I cross the unwinnability event horizon, or having to metagame my way through a tough fight because of low health. Health packs didn't promote exploration so much as they promoted obsessive-compulsive behavior.

Real Housewives of X.

Or any of those "follow a family around with a camera" shows that are just because they have kids.

How are these shows entertaining?

OT: Final Fantasy 7. I don't hate it, necessarily, but I also don't get why it's regarded as the holy grail of JRPGS.
I was going to post the same thing, except with FF6 instead of FF7.

Yeah, I never understood that either, OK Computer's one of my least favourite Radiohead albums.

You don't like it, big whoop. The people who enjoy blank are a lot happier playing blank than you will ever be feeling self-important for not liking blank, so get over yourself.
That is absolutely true. Nail on the head, dear sir.

I'm not a big fan of Mirror's Edge myself. Don't get me wrong, it has attempted something interesting. Unfortunately, the execution is pretty flawed.

Most of all, however - there is absolutely no discussion value in these threads. You're not gonna change someone's viewpoint in the least and neither will their opinion change yours. Also, I say misery because these forums are getting so damn depressing with these "I hate X" threads. Like I said - it's good (in a way) that you have such a strong opinion on something, but stop constantly complaining about it. Just avoid what you hate and the both of us will be happier.
I second this. It's essentially just stirring up contempt for contempt's sake; it doesn't even give much solidarity to either party. All it serves to do is divide everyone into hipsters and fanboys. Explaining why I like something to someone who doesn't like it (or vice versa) isn't discussion - it's just opinion-wank.

Who said anything about being better for any reason? Or about anyone being sheep? Or self-importance?

Take your own advice, get the hell over yourself and stop imagining fights and personal attacks where there really aren't any.

Both of you, him for attacking and you for agreeing.

I HATE KINGDOM HEARTS.

I like 2. Hell, I even liked Chain of Memories. But there are so many things wrong with the first one. Things are poorly explained (how was I supposed to know to hit that random door with Fire?!) the combat isn't that great and platforming is miserable. Though it doesn't help that I played these games after the fact, so I don't benefit from nostalgia.

Thank god they fixed it in later versions.

Not related to gaming, but beer and wine. I love other alcoholic beverages, but the two most popular suck IMO. Never seen the appeal of soccer and basketball. It's also very rare for me to like music. I've liked maybe 2-3% of the songs I have ever heard. As such dancing and clubs hold very little appeal for me. Long story short, I'm a complete weirdo.

We need to name a new law I've just discovered.

Even after a shameworthy phenomenon has been satirezed it will still continue to grow exponentially. Ever see the movie Clueless? I believe it came out in '95. There's a slow-mo scene mocking how guys had taken to wearing their jeans around their knees and topped that insipid look off with the Fred Durst/fratboy backwards baseball cap. And the dipshits are still doing it. They'll be sure to call you a "******" for pointing out that you didn't attend work/walk into that gas station to see the entirety of their underwear.

Case in point: yesterday I made a joke thread entitled "why all the hate for why all the hate threads" and the why all the hate/why all the love thread just keep on truckin'.

Since when was satire intended to kill its targets?

The Satyricon was a nasty prod at the culture of excess, using common knowledge for cheap laughs. Aristophanes' Wasps is a seris of silly hyperbolic characters doing overblown things in court. Your thread, devastating as its impact clearly was, isn't going to kill certain kinds of discussion.

Why does everyone love Halo? I hate Halo! (It's just not that interesting for a sci-fi shooter)

This could also be said for Mass Effect, seriously, what's so great about it?

I do apologise, I missed that point in your first post. I agree on that principle, the whole goth thing springs to mind for me, the lack of self-awareness is dizzying.

I would disagree about it applying here, though. Ii's just the nature of the forums, certain topics appear in droves then in a week they stop and are replaced.

Remember 'the last something you somethinged is now in your cereal' and how it went away in the end? Same thing. If it peeves you, just ignore it. It'll go away. If it doesn't, it'll shrink down to just the people who want to vent. It's not poisoning the escapist, and it's easy to be the bigger person and just roll your eyes at threads you consider to be stupid.

Final Fantasy. All of them. Turn based nonsense.
That goes for Civilization as well.

As for non-games? The Lord of the Rings books. The world in which the characters reside is wonderful and deep, but the books progress so... freaking... slowly...

Watching sports. Playing sports? Fun. Watching sports? Boring as all hell.
