Why does it keep doing that?

Does anyone else have a piece of hardware that involves getting creative or arcane in order for it to function?
For example:
-no-brand portable HDD (laptop size) that needs to be plugged in, powered up, then unplugged, then plugged in, exactly seven times before it realises that yes, the USB port is indeed a USB 2.0 port, and no, it does not have to function at reduced speed... On any PC, regardless of hardware/software config.
-family member's car: when going, lights on (night) - dashboard only half lights up, unless you have the driver's side airvent open, and pointing down. (There aren't any loose/touching wires, I checked).

Lame examples, granted, so share some stories of the strange and unlikely; the ones no-one believes until you show them...

... or post about it on The Escapist...

Me. I ramble about everything and nothing until I have drunk exactly 3 cops of hot, strong coffee.

I could also write EXACTLY how many times I have to touch my penis for it to stop acting weird and start working properly. But I'll save that for parties.

In all seriousness though, I have an Mp3 player that I use as a USB drive. I have to turn it off and on exactly 4 times before it registers that it is on and will start playing.
