If you take a minute to look at some of the polls about music, or that thread a few days ago about people who should be killed, rap and rappers get a kicking all the time.
Rap, like any other genre has sub genre's and aspects of rap truly annoy me, yet I love other aspects it, like NWA, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Eminen, Xzibit etc, yet I would not describe myself as an avid fan of it, I'm more of a metal head
I just feel that slating the whole genre because of a few annoying rappers is a bit ignorant

I prefer songs with some kind of melody, not just the rhythmic speech that is rap.

There is good rap, its just that most of the mainstream stuff is undeniably bad.

I think its just a general thing, most people who don't look into a genera only get to see the more publicized stuff. An unfortunate aspect of rap is that its popularized artists generally are very "in yo face" about themselves, they stick out and unlike Rock, metal, jazz, what have you, rap doesn't always have a very established history of ground breaking artists that are able to differentiate them self's from other, maybe less talented folks, in their genera

Steps to making a mainstream rap song:

Make simple beat that a 5yr old could
Talk to a basic rhythm about one of the following: Money, bitches(hoes), being black
Sell until you can gold plate yourself

That's the majority of what people hear on radio and it's shite, not saying that some isn't good it's just much rarer that you hear it compared to the stuff that gets played every hour on the radio.

I mainly avoid gangster rap because it speaks to a target audience im absolutely not a part of. Im not racist but Im just not comfortable listening to music that involves the n-word many times.

Though I honestly do apreciate Snopp Dogg and im trying to like his and Dr Dre's albums by forcing myself to listen to it every once in a while. (the same way I got to apreciate Radiohead)

mainly because rap music (more so nower-days) is full of people saying how good they are, how rich they are, how many women they get. And personally i cant relate to that in anyway shape or form, also it just sounds arragont to me. Its an entire genre that doesnt really say anything important anymore

Wellwithout rap you wouldn't have had most of the bloodhound gang, B42's, Linkin Park (now, that would be a shame lol)

Because its not very good.
EDIT: (In case you did not know I quoted you because I agree)
I broke my ankle, a year back or so.
Twisted it all the way around because I flipped the golf cart I was driving.

Now, I have a mild fear of golf carts.

It's kind of like that. After only hearing shitty (and they are shitty, no argument,) rap songs near constantly, I have an understandable dislike of the genre.
This is almost precisely what I wanted to say. I am not willing to wade throug thousands of shitty, badly-produced songs made by someone with no understanding of music just to find that one song which isn't completely unbearable.

Once I was talking to a rapper in a recording studio about a song he was recording.
"Your tempo is off during the chorus."
"My what?"
a few minutes later...
"You're saying you're trying to make this song sorrowful. C isn't really the best key for that."
"You're just making words up."

because anyone can sing crappy lyrics about how "badass" you are to a single metronome, it's not talent, it's not even music, it's just noise.
