SO the other day I was sitting around twiddling my thumbs when I thought: "Hey, I haven't played Windwaker in years, and I don't think I ever finished it. I must do do forthwith!" At which point I remembered I hadn't seen my copy in something like four years, so I hopped on the Internet to find a copy and, low and behold, there are no copies of Windwaker under $35, and those are the ones without cases and "some scratching".

Why is a game that is comparatively common going for such a high price in the aftermarket? When the GameCube was current, everyone and their dog owned a copy, or had at least played it.

Because It's an old game and copies are limited since they don't make it anymore, also i just did a quick ebay search and someone is selling it with the bonus disc for 2k$(brand new), is this game really that good?

It's only nine years old, and it was produced in massive quantities to meet the demand that Zelda games always fall under. There are games that were produced in fewer numbers and sold in fewer stores that I buy for ten to twenty dollars. It's not rare, and a boxed copy with the bonus disk might be worth $80-$120 dollars, not $2,000. That guy is a hustler.

The $2000 one is sold as a sealed copy. So he is targeting wealthy collectors but naturally it may also be someone trying to pull a con job.

Wind Waker is just a game that people just don't want to resell I guess. Some people keep every game while others sell everything apart from a handful of games they want to keep and it must be one of those games for many. (I have to phrase this like a lawyer because the Wind Waker haters will pop up out the wood work and tear apart my every word.)

Also there was a big crunch on Gamecube classics when the Wii was released with full backward compatibility and it outsold the GCN by a lot.

You're out of luck then.

I fucking noticed this when I was looking for a copy of Wind Waker as well last year. Perhaps it's because of its popularity, or maybe the fact that it's a GameCube game could be jacking the price up - I'm inclined to think the latter seeing as most GameCube games I was on the search for were ridiculously expensive. I managed to get really really lucky and found a second-hand copy of the gold Special Edition - the one that contains Ocarina of Time: Master Quest - in a second-hand electronics store, and that still cost me £25.

To be honest, I reckon those sort of stores (and other game retailers, as long as they sell preowned stuff) are your best bet. It's where I found most of my GameCube back catalogue - Luigi's Mansion, Soul Calibur II, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness - because looking for copies online just proved to be too bloody pricey.

Still on the lookout for decently priced copies of Twilight Princess, Ikaruga and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes though :/

Keep an eye out for Tales of Symphonia, it's another must-have.
I just went and searched this because I'm always looking for more reasons to go back to my GameCube and guess what? £46 quid used is the first price I find. Well, that's set the bar, another one to go on the trawl for through countless second-hand sales. To be fair, I do enjoy the trawling through tons of games looking for one specific one, but still.

You know, I don't think I've ever played a Tales game. What are they like?

EDIT: Holy shit, down to £35, it's a bargain.
EDIT the Second: Alternatively, Amazon offer it at £130 brand new. So tempting (not)
