because if they try to improve an issue, youre "sullying it", says the fanboy.
if you leave it alone, youve lost the opportunity to "improve it", says the idealist.

if you make the graphics up to snuff with todays standards, and its the same good game [i.e halo anniversary], they get two giant thumbs up and cash from me. dosent mean i dont like remastered titles like shadow of the colossus, and ICO, im cool with that too.

Nintendo does this very regularly. XBLA and PSN both have quite a few old games, too. I think it's really taken off with the explosion of digital distribution, and I believe it's only a matter of time before virtually all old games are in downloadable form.
and this is why nintendo is sinking to the bottom of the proverbial sea. they are afraid of stepping into the big boy ring with a new IP, so they re hashing old games they know will make money on.

Like the final fantasy games most were only available on ps 1, yes some have remakes on psp (I played some), not all of them though. And since they are only on psp they are not widely available.
What are you talking about there where only 3 FF games that where originally made for the ps1 and the first 6 FF games where remade a lot, 7, 8, and 11 where released on PCs and 9 and 10(jp only) were released on PSN.
Lots of old games have been remade for newer systems it would be nice to get even more but its expensive to port games and PS1 games can be bought and played on a PS2 or on a PC emulator so there isn't allot of need to remake all of them.

There is a reason why Silent Hill 1 and Metal Gear Solid weren't on their respective HD collections. I'll give you a hint why: it's not because the developers are stupid.

It's really easy to think you know what's better than the people actually in the industry, and most of the time you don't. That's okay though, it's kinda something that people just do.
So clearly you don't know why the originals weren't in the HD remakes either, you are just saying that I think I know better than the people in the games industry? Did I even imply that? NO I don't think I did, I just called them tight for not including it.

It's pretty simple: because they believed it wouldn't be worth the extra cost (or time, which I guess is included in "cost") to put in the significantly more effort to make an HD remake of a PS1 game. Now there's probably some deeper analysis and stuff that's factoring into their decision that only the people involved would know, but on the basic level, that's it.

Anyway, let's see you've called them "stupid and down right tight assed" to not include SH1 and MGS1 on their HD collections and "reckon their profits will outweigh their costs" for doing more remakes in general. Seems like a reasonable (if a little bit hyperbolic) to conclude that in this case, you think you know better than the people who are in charge of these decisions.

Seriously though, that's nothing to get offended/upset over. I've done it before. I can guaranteenot an actual guarantee that everyone on this site has at one point or another thought they knew better than a company and in fact didn't know better. Being on the outside and thinking you know what people on the inside should be doing is something that people just do.

even if they copied the original 100% there would be tons of fanboy backlash over "ruining" the "perfection" of the original.

Remakes in general are a bad idea, no matter how much you copy the original, tons of people will hate it.
My brain...my brain hurts now, because fanboy stupidity. Not you, just the attitude of some people.

I mean I know fanboys can be really fucking stupid sometimes, but even this doesn't seem like something they'd do. Take me for example. I get really pissed when someone starts insulting my favorite games, but I'm still happy that some of my favorite series (Final Fantasy, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Ico and Shadow) have been remastered or even completely remade. That way, people who've never been able to play the originals can experience updated versions that are available for consoles that they likely own. Then again, I try to be as optimistic as possible when it comes to this medium, so maybe my opinion doesn't matter too much.

Here's the thing I don't think the fanboys understand: They can play the new version of the game and still have the older version to fall back on for nostalgia purposes or whatever they want to cite. It's not hard to keep your old SNES and a copy of Final Fantasy IV around if you don't like any of the other numerous versions that Square has put out.

Fanboys, listen to me, and listen good.

To each. Their motherfucking. OWN.

Yeah I see what you mean actually, but I did not mean to imply that I knew better I just was not clear as to why this sort of decision, was being widely made by developers.
Also there is a difference between calling someone's decision stupid (like I did), and calling someone stupid outright.
But some developers are tight assed it is a fact. In case you thought I was being childish and referring to the developers actual anus's I wasn't. Tight assed is British speak for a miser.

But thank you. Your insight has been most useful.

I have always been thinking that it would be so nice to have remakes of old games, a remake of Resident Evil 2, a remake (and not "re-imagining") of Silent Hill, a remake of Final Fantasy 7, and so many others. After years of wishful thinking and bitter experiences from the greedy industry, now I have come to the conclusion that I don't want remakes. I simply don't trust them that they will do a decent remake. They are incompetent to do a proper remake, simple as that. So instead of abusing the old classics, I propose those games to be rereleased without anything being changed. And in disk form of course, with booklets, cover art and case.

Do you mean on the old console or the new ones, cos as those guys stated formatting a game to a new console can be costly.

Heck, the first two Final Fantasies are among the most remade/ported games of all time - first there was the NES compilation (both games on a single NES cartridge), the WonderSwan Color remake, the Playstation remake, the GBA remake, the first mobile phone remake, the PSP remake, the iOS remake; furthermore, the first one also had an MSX2 port and ANOTHER mobile phone version.

Not to mention the Playstation versions are available on PSN, and the NES versions are available on Wii VC.

On old consoles. For example retro-releases of PS1 games on PS1 format. The same games that we knew from the 90's in new copies. PS1 games are compatible with the PS2 and PS3 consoles.

There are a lot of games I really wish to see to be remade like the thief series and system shock 2 because those games really are old and not like these games that the remake now that have only been around like 7 or 8 years. For example the first two god of wars for the PS3 . I would say that games that were released on the PS2 should not be remade, because they are not old enough IMO but really old games like before the PS2 should be remade. Not all of them no that would be silly but you know like the first 2 thief games and system shock 2.
