Or perhaps someone *gasp* didn't like the first game, and won't buy the sequel, because the point of a sequel is to promise similar gameplay? Oh, the horror!
The thing is, most people have something to base their assumptions on. In that case, he had the previous game in the series, and thus will assume that the sequel is more of the same, because that's how it works.
Of course, if someone assumes something wrong with no valid reason for assuming so, then yes, they are an idiot.
If they do have a valid reason for assuming so, then no, they're not.

OT: They're unable to think objectively because they've been taught by everyone to scream their horribly stupid opinions, and to always think subjectively.

From a personal point of view, I can use CoD as an example. But people, even non-gamers, just don't get that the biggest IP in gaming just does not excite me in anyway. I've tried a few of them, the MW titles and stand alone CoD games. I love FPS. Borderlands, Bulletstorm, Kill.Switch etc. are some of my favourite games, but CoD leaves me cold.

In part it's the setting, real world conflict is quite a dull environment for me to play in, give me the ridiculous setting of Pandora or political machinations of the Dead Echo team, or in the case of previous gen gaming, the romance and heroics of a Medal of Honour.

And the other irritant is the online community. People take these games very seriously,but I'm not a big team player so having to follow the rules of a squad or, more pertinently in my case, feel like I'm letting a squad down, does not sit well with me. I couldn't get into MAG and much prefer the lone wolf approach of racing games where it's just me against the world.

In short, it's just different strokes for different folks. I know Borderlands and Bulletstorm, and indeed the Fallouts and God of War games don't click with people. But I love them.
Arguing and bitching is a fun part of any interest, be it music, film or hentai.

I'm not meaning to flame but I don't see the validity in your argument. People will defend what they like. Admittedly sometimes they can be a little touchy about it, but its something they like, and not everyone can say 'that's your opinion'. This is where trolls have fun.

People won't accept your opinion on a game you never played? Seems pretty reasonable to me.

I agree you can know if you'd enjoy a game before playing it, especially if you have played the previous game of a sequel and the subject of the game does not interest you. However, knowing you will not enjoy it and knowing how well the game was made are not necessarily the same thing. Personal opinion can be bias, and there is nothing wrong with knowing your own biases.

Of course, you're going to get a lot of people yelling at you for having a bias against the idea of playing as Batman. And people also look down on anyone who follow their bias over the quality of how the game was made.

Still, if you rank games in levels:
A) Good even for people who dislike subject.
B) Correctly execute subject well.
C) Interesting, but only if you love subject.

Then Arkham City probably falls under the "A" group in my book. It doesn't mean you will like it, but it is so well made I would expect even those with negative opinions of the first game to like it. There are similar elements from both games of course, but not any I would expect having a low opinion for. And without and argument beyond "I just didn't like it" ...I would expect people to hate your opinion and fail to understand how it could be applied to the second game. I can see why, from their perspective, that argument might not seem logical. What I can't understand is why they feel that means they need to force the game on you.

Arkham City is the last time you'll hear Mark Hamill do his awesome Joker voice. If you don't like Batman all good an well yet you have to respect the voice acting talent he has.

I acknowledge that Batman Arkham City has been reviewed to be an amazing game from the reviewers' points of view. I just don't find it interesting. But as soon as I mention it people are gushing at Batman Arkham City the same way people are gushing at other mainstream titles (MW3, B3 etc etc etc) but they seem to emphasise that they are correct no matter what logical argument I put forward to them. Why don't these people grow up and learn that the games that they are interested in aren't necessarily interesting to other people?

Btw I've had friends pull the argument, I looked at gameA but never liked the look of it until I played it and now I love it, so you should play Batman AC and you will love it. No no no. I have played Batman AC, doesn't interest me at all.

Yet Overall you're not giving something a chance because you didn't like it once. Then you're ignoring opinions because you refuse to give it a chance. That right there makes your opinion valid yet your argument highly invalid. AC and AA are similar but what they expanded on and refined from AA to AC might be what you're looking for and you might miss out on because of your stubbornness. You're calling out others as "immature" where you're just the same, just on a different side of a 2 headed coin.

It depends really. If you're taking the hipster "I don't like it because it's popular" approach, then over course people will find that strange.

People will have differing opinions and defending your game of choice and trying to get the other person to, at the very least, see why you love it is what we do.

Also, they are almost forcing the game on me. It's really annoying.
