Have you ever done something or enjoyed something, and showed/told your friends or family about it, and they don't understand or get it in the slightest?

That seems to be that way with some movies with my parents...They just turned off Inglorious Basterds (which I loved) because they thought it was boring and not funny, the same happened with Watchmen as well.

My parents don't "get" most comedy nowadays, (granted, I don't find many of the sitcoms funny either) bu I love things like Stephen Colbert, South Park, and that vinquilist(sp) guy that got his own show on Comedy Central.
Likewise, they don't understand why I like games either... oh well.

I play DnD and I'm majoring in music. My parents don't get why sitting in a room with a bunch of other geeks pretending to kill stuff and loot the corpses is fun, and any indication music is anything other than a brief phase before I settle down and choose a real career is met with total imcomprehension.

I honestly did't really like Inglorious Bastards that much. It consists of....oh wait...
People sitting at tables talking, seriously watch it again and see how much time is spent with characters sitting down at tables talking. And it wasn't in a very Tarintino-esque way either. Meaning there is nothing really that will inspire a Legion of quotable material that people will be able to realte to, or anything that really kept me interested in what they were saying... it just didn't have the festive type of dialogue he usually writes.

OT: Err, maybe it's because people just like different things. If you like something then good for you, if not... there's no reason for someone to really get that worked up about it.

My parent's don't really understand a lot of things I do, or what people do in general. Especially my dad.

People tend not to understand those times I laugh at the suffering of others, but it honestly entertains me - as long as it's not really serious stuff, like their family dying or whatever. Just small crap, like teenage angst.

When I play D&D, my parents (Well, my mom, anyways) take the ignorant route and misconstrues it as me worshiping unholy beings and stuff. I don't tell her I play it anymore.

People don't understand why I don't contribute to conversations, and why I'm quiet, and why I don't give 2 shits about getting a car and driving.

Answer: Its kind of hard to contribute to a conversation if its about something you know nothing about, and most people talk about cars and sports, 2 things I don't care and know nothing about.

And I'm quiet because I only speak when I have something good to say. Which isn't very often, since people either say it before me, or they won't get it, so I don't bother.

And I don't care about driving because I find it boring as hell. Everytime someone took me to drive, I've nearly fallen asleep.

From a guy who typically reads Steven King, George R.R. Martin, and biographies of various historical figures, it usually earns me a few raised eye brows when I tell people think that A Series of Unfortunate Events is [HEADING=2]GENIUS[/HEADING]

Most people write the series off as dull and repetitive, which admittedly, it is to start.

What those new to the series don't understand is every little thing that happens actually has a purpose later in the series.

At the end of the seventh book the author totally flips the series on it's head. While the writing is a bit spartan, Handler has created a fascinating world with a surprisingly detailed history. (Revealed to the reader mostly in the form of context clues and references to past events in unexpected places.)

Handlers writing style in these books is unlike anything else you'll ever read. A bizarre sense of humor and the shear ridiculousness of some of the settings and story elements, combined with a staggering number of obscure literary references (90% of which you'll never spot without the help of an online list.) make this a book series even older readers can appreciate.

Dude! That's totally how I feel. Whenever I hang around my Chinese friends all they talk about is buying the next most expensive LV bag or what happened in the latest episode of Naruto. >.<

My parents don't understand a lot of what I find funny. They also don't understand my taste in men. Or my taste in music.

Hehe, funny story about naruto.

A few of my friends watch that show, and when I was over there last month for a LAN party, they all took a brake to watch Naruto.

My one friend and I hate Naruto. So we decided to watch Unskippable. Then we got the idea to do what that show does, but instead of making fun of game cutscenes, we made fun of Naruto.

Oh man, that was a fun night XD

Answer, because it tastes rank and I turn into an arsehole!
Didn't you're old profile picture have you holding a glass of brandy or some shit? My view of you as an occasional awesome Irish drunk is now spoilt.

You can still look at me as an Irish stoner.

They're more common then you think.

And that glass of wine was my parents, I just though it looked cool.

Also, YOU!!

People don't get how I find it hard not to make a joke at an airport. Someone has to hit me repeatedly to get my mind off making a comment.
