I've noticed that in comparison to the Off-Topic and Gaming Discussion, the <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/index/326-User-Reviews>User Review section is basically ignored. Apart from a few regulars, not all that many people check it out. I mean, the video reviews like <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation>Zero Punctuation and <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies>Escape to the Movies all get thousands of hits when they get put up. They are reviews too, and some of the reviews posted in the User Review section come close to the same quality of these reviews.

I'm curious as to why that is. Is it because you don't want to read long review? Do you not trust your fellow Escapist's opinion? Were you unaware that the User Review forum existed?

Please let me know, as I don't really see why many people ignore that section of this site.

Because most of the people I knew have left and I'd rather read reviews by professionals I kind of know and trust.

Because making a thread is a lot less work than making a review.
Reviews generate less discussion than threads.

It's because there isn't the same amount of nonsense there as there is in the other boards.

Serious reviews make people bored and tired. Talking about what you would eat in a zombie apocalypse is more fun for "the masses".

Kinda obvious really. Only the people that can read more than a paragraph without needed to pop some vicodin can enjoy that board.

And in case you want some decent [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.234891] entertainment.... [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.170108]

I've noticed that there was something called user review.. but i have never clicked on it..

Maybe i will now though since you kinda tickled my interest a bit..

Edit: I have now been there, nothing sparked my interest so it was probably the first and last time i enter that place.. I did not see a review of any game that i care about or wanted..

Because I didn't know how to get there. Even with your instructions, I'm still a bit lost.

Seriously though, I do. But many people don't, just because the stuff there is really text-heavy and does not generate too much discussion.

Also, if someone flames your favorite game in review form, you will be sad forever.

Actually I made that last part up.

I go there occasionally, but really I'll just read the review and usually not comment for the most part. I agree with it not generating as much discussion. It's not uncommon for a review to get many hits, yet few replies. It's not neccesarily a bad thing.

I do! I even occasionally...

Oh damn I haven't made a review since April. I still have to review Digimon Data Squad! But it's been so long since I watched it, I would have to watch it again and since it's on TV I have to wait for it to get back to the start and... GOD DAMN IT!

Calumon: I haven't done much since I looked at comics, but I also like other people's reviews. Reviewers are awesooommeee! :D

To be honest in my experience the user reviews are rather poorly written and self indulgent (not all of them of course but quite a few).

No offence if you are reading this an have written a review(s), I am sure your review(s) are the good ones.

EDIT: I read pretty much solely film reviews.

I do use it! Not as much as I used to but I still do! [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.234884] /Self advertising.

I think the reason why it's not used is due to the fact that many reviews, myself included, seem to be slowly heading into TL;DR territory, (I wrote 8 pages about how I found FF XIII to be just good.) and that always puts people off a little bit.

And also, most of the reviews aren't of current movies, games, anime, etc. so people might not be that interested in them, sadly.

I just don't care to know what you guys think of games and films, at least not in such detail...sorry.

"Yeh, it's good...go see it". That's me reccommending a film. Saying much more than that would be potentially giving too much away, and at very least sending someone in with expectations.

I'm happier watching films when I'm not sure what to expect.

Yeah, I don't really bother with reviews much at all anyway. When I do, I'm gonna look for one I'm familiar with. User reviews just aren't any help to me at all.
