yesterday someone I have been friends with for years but had never been a gamer, which makes me wonder I am his friend, ask me why I game, I thought all of about .0000000000001 seconds on this and said, " because your not in there." he looked at me in a strange way, and I said, " no I dont hate you" I game because I am in the most important role when I game usually, for example, in portal, (PORTAL SPOILER) I am the one who will bring down Glados, (END SPOILER). Its in a game that the player is the one who matters, I also play because it takes me a away from this world, in a video game, I am not being nagged by my boss to stop trying to burn down the office, (I am not trying to burn down my office btw, it was a joke) I can do what I would like to do without consequences in this world, except maybe online, like me being the reason a kid who should not be playing M games is swearing consistently. But most importantly, I game for fun. Why do you game?

The appreciative nature of gamers towards games is the fact that it's life, but easier. It's one where there's more control and less variables. In some games, you control the variables.

Because all the other artistic mediums are dying or dead and I can only read or study the work of dead white men for so long. Games may be a bit young, but there are a lot of interesting things going on.

i game because it gets me out of my crappy life for a while, if ones real life sucks, why not spend your time in a made up one where you are happy, or atleast think that you are happy and not the screw up you are in real life

Nice escape from reality. Also, it's a good way for kids who are either handicapped (such as myself) or people who simply suck at sports (my friends) to have a jolly good time together.

I guess they give me the same feeling as reading a good book or watching a kick-arse movie, Other than that; Because they're fun! (Apart from the shitty ones, *cough, Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, cough*).

I have to concur with Taxi Driver on this one. It's much easier to be a ninja in video games than in real life. Do you know how many forms and permits you have to fill out to go ninja-ing? Lots

I game for the fun, too, but also for the experiences.

I want an experience that no other medium could possibly bring to me, like with Bioshock.

I just do it because it's fun. I hate when PhD wavers begin to give gamers Physch evaluations of The "Sceince of gaming" and the appeal of controll or escaping life, and they need attention/ mental help blah blah expensive meds.....
I watch TV because I enjoy watching TV,
I watch Movies because I enjoy watching Movies,
Listen to music, because I enjoy it, So I play video games because I find them fun.

It's fun, fills up lots of time, becomes like an interactive film/book (well, if done properly) and can give you a great sense of superiority over others/the game itself.

because it's fun. thankfully my standards for what is fun, are lower than my standards in television, film, and music...

so in the end, there tends to be more games for me to play than good tv shows to watch

I play games to escape from the boring drudgery that is life.

One of the main reasons I'm so critical of the "Real Is Brown" craze. I want bright colors in games, dammit!

Because games fill insane amounts of time and there are times where a brainless, repetitive activity that will eat lots of time is needed for one's well being. Thus I play things like JRPGs, or W.O.W.
There are times where my escapist desires must be fulfilled and so I play survival horror, or movie tie in games. Running around a computer simulated Narnia is much more fulfilling as an escape than watching the same movie for the 100th time.
