I game because it's all about entertainment, and I want to be entertained.

Also, sometimes it's fun to participate in communities around the world with diverse individuals, and then reduce them to screaming, red-faced blobs of anonymous carbon.

(I was here first! >_< )

I play games for the same reason that I read books, watch movies, go outside for walks, etc.: recreation. Whether it's appreciating the art form of simply doing what's impossible in real life has some kind of appeal to it.

Video games are played for the reason humans watch, listen or experience other forms of entertainment: enjoyment.

What gives video games the edge is the immersion they provide.

The appreciative nature of gamers towards games is the fact that it's life, but easier. It's one where there's more control and less variables. In some games, you control the variables.
I agree entirely. For me, life is just not as appealing as gaming, although I seem to spend my 'game time' forumming than actually gaming nowadays.

I enjoy it. I like discussing things with other gamers, and I just love being swept away to a realm where I am not some boring University student, but a girly badarse with a huge sword.

Serious Answer: I have an incredibly good time playing video games. I find them more enjoyable then less interactive forms of entertainment. Also taking a break from reality and doing the impossible/insane is a great feeling.

Not Serious Answer: There is a disturbing lack of jedi, zombies, giant robots, and blue haired androids in real life.

Whenever I try to explain or justify why I "game", I just end up settling on "because it's fun". I enjoy "gamer culture" and interacting with others while playing games. It's just pretty awesome all around.

Also I suck at sports.

couldnt aggree more. the best therapy is gta. killing strangers with chainsaw's and flamethrowers. stealing cars and killing cops. it's an alternate reality which is fun, not a brainwashing engine to turn our youth into killing matchines, as some fucktards think. go manhunt!! :)

It's an entertaining diversion, like listening to music or watching TV or a film.
Yes, but interactive. I game to escape from reality, because reality is tedious.

I like to kill things, (its especially good for pms! so long as you can afford the replacement controllers) I like to run people over, I like to steal things, I like BIG weapons that are physically impossible for me to wave around! I like to save the day, I DON'T like to be arrested for it! Or have to face any of those boring things like consiquenises or fatal blood loss. so i game! that and the fact i'm not a moronic censoring maniac and can see those things as fun and in there correct context and not a devolution of society .....*breaths* ....

I play games because I've always played games. And anyway, they're fun. Besides, the only times reality isn't tedious it's potentially lethal.
