Why has there never been another Pokemon Snap?

You know what one of my favorite games ever was? Considering that you probably understand context and read the title before you came here, I'm going to guess you already do. I loved Pokemon Snap, which is why I have, for quite a while, been perplexed by the fact that I have yet to see another Pokemon Snap, or even another game in a similar vein.

Pokemon Snap had an undeniable charm, unique (ish, okay, so it was basically a rail shooter with the gun replaced with a camera, but still!) gameplay mechanism, and more fun than you could throw a barrel of monkeys at.

Why hasn't there been a sequel? Or, at the very least, a rip off where I ride in a cart and take pictures of... something... anything! Wanting more of that type of gameplay is like being a junkie who's hooked on some weird drug that's somehow made out of faberege eggs. You just can't get another fix. Was it just one of those things where I had fun but no one else did? Can no one else say that they'd happily chop off one of their limbs (as long as it wasn't one of the ones they needed for the controller) for more Pokemon Snap?

Some days all I can do is sigh in frustration while the world taunts me with its lack things it ought to have.

Because they're busy making the next pokemon games, Band-aid Tan, and Fork Metal Grey.

Also it'd be kind of boring to take pictures of the 800 or whatever pokemon. ..150 was fine, but how many times do you want to -really- do that? They'd have to think of something to make it more interesting.

I'd love another Snap. I loved that game to death as a kid. Think about how many Pokemon you could take pictures of now. It'd be awesome!

It probably did rather poorly or whatever team made it disbanded and Nintendo/Gamefreak didn't care to try again.

That actually sounds like the exact opposite of boring to me. No kidding, I would buy a Wii (or whatever system Nintendo had at the time that it came out for) just for that game.

Pokemon Snap is the only Pokemon game I have honestly ever played and I really enjoyed it. I don't know why but taking pictures of the Pokemon was really fun and relaxing.

Maybe they could do a sequel but I don't know how they would expand besides obviously adding more Pokemon.

I still have that game. My sister and I play it together on occasion even though we're both old enough to drink.

It's kind of a niche game, really. It seems to me that it was able to do somewhat well in sales because it was coasting on the wave of Pokemania that was still sweeping the nation at the time. Pokemon is still popular today, but nowhere near as popular as it was in the late 90's/early 2000's, so a game like Pokemon Snap would be a much bigger risk.

I'd wager that between fans of the original and diehard Pokemaniacs, though, there's probably enough buyers out there to make it worth their while.

Im in favor of a sequal. A more thorough one too. The first did not even have half of the origional 151.
I remember trying to get a good pic of Mew. All you could ever hope to get was a shot of its butt.

It was a good game, but certainly not the best. It was short and got old quick, but it has a strangeness that worked for what it was trying to do, and that made it unique.

Because pokemon follows the same rules as nintendo why bother to making something different when you can constantly churn the same out with a few extra toppings and make a profit?

I think its cause the audience isnt there to justify the costs.

Besides, it would be on the wii (though if its on the ds, that would be kinda cool) and the wii would crap all over it somehow.

Photography sims are a largely neglected genre. Imagine all the fun and exciting things you could have going on with the pokemon interacting with each other these days! Its a wonderful idea, and with the technology today, it could be some sort of neat FPSRPG thingy.

I think the colors you're looking for are, "Khaki" and "Gunmetal".

I dunno, it did kind of disappear

In a snap.
Booooooo

OT: I dunno, I just cant see the company suits convinced that the time and money it would take to develop a good Snap sequel is somehow more financially secure than just continuing to polish the golden goose of Pokemon Games proper.

I would love to play an updated one though. At least with the second generation included.

This right here is proof that people have different ideas of what fun is, and yet everyone believes that the world has the same views as they do.

I'd play the hell out of a new Snap. And having more than the first gen would be awesome. Hell, they could make it span all four regions too!

Better question is where is Luigi's Mansion 2? Nintendo, you got some splanin' to do.
