I am a nerd I know but we all know chess is fun once you get past the drool of it all. Whatever happened to the game where when you took a piece, you turned into a dragon and bit off the pawns head. I mean if we brought this back I'm sure it would beat sales of chessmaster live. You could even have downloadable themes so instead of rook to knight you have Master chief Vs. metal gear. Think of the animations you could do and the armys you could see fighting with user-made content (after a lot of testing). We could bring back this classic game and appeal it to all sorts of people. Plus, people would'nt complain about the pointlessness of it because it teaches you to think in new ways to achieve your goal. So why hasn't a game like this been advertised?

I personaly love chess, I have a few very nice chess boards but I think the big problem with this is: few other people share the passion of chess more would find it to slow even with animations.

It doesn't seem like it would be a very difficult game to make. What we need is some indie developer to remake the game and put up for download.

probably because, despite it being quite entertaining, it was also pointless. It still played like chess, but you had to watch long, drawn-out mini cutscenes every time you took a piece. With the internet, you can just hop online and start playing a random person. All the extra time spent watching your pieces kill eachother adds up quickly, and suddenly a 30-min game takes 40 minutes.

bah, ok, that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but even when I play Advanced Wars, I turn off the battle animation, and the game takes half the time.

You can get it from GOG.com if you want. Though be warned that the animations in BC1 play abominably slowly (it's a side-effect of being a DOS game, apparently), so much that you'll want to kill yourself by the end of the game. The later games aren't as bad.

I dont want my chess pieces looking like master chief, It's a gimmick and the people attracted to the game because of that are going to give up when they realise the game requires patience, strategic thinking and concentration.

Chess is the mutts nuts.

The entire point of changing chess to battle chess is to give more entertainment. To make it appeal to more people and bring the game of chess back to life even if by the use of gimmicks. Plus, i hope people would eventually turn off the animations then you would have more chess players just for the game. Its just a way of bringing back a classic game for a new generation.

I distinctively remember a Star Wars version.

And yeah, I would assume the main reason it hasn't been remade is because depsite being fun to watch, adding animated pieces to the game is inherently pointless.

Then again, in this modern world of downloadable games and microtransactions, I could very well envision a Chessmaster/Battlechess hybrid with optional skins of different manstream brands, like Mario, Halo, Starwars, Lego, you name it.

Not necessarilly better, but it could be successfull.
