And a simplistic one at that.
You are aware the games ARE toys right? No? That's just sad.
It's sad that you're saying "no flame comments" while just about every near flame comes from you. But I guess that's your nintendo fanboyism that we see here. People don't agree so you must defend nintendo until you die or are ignored by everybody.(the latter being an automatic win using the "chewbacca defense" standard)

Did you SEE Miyamoto fellating that wiimote [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAGvJQAtloo]?

I just remember sitting there scratching my head, wondering just who in the hell greenlit this idea.

Everytime someone mentions WiiMusic, I will think of this. And honestly, it makes me ill. Debates on whether it's a game or not aside, it just looks so damn stupid.

With a game like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, it takes skill. From time spent playing it, you can progressively see yourself getting better either from hitting certain riffs or actual statistics. Wii Music does not require skill nor really have an objective. Normally, gamers would just push a title like this to the side and never think twice about it, but it represents much more coming from Nintendo. Since the core audience expected Nintendo to come into E3 announcing a new title from an established IP or possibly even a new one, people are deeply disappointed. The core, myself included, look at this as a slap in the face by Nintendo. After years of the core supporting Nintendo, their biggest announcement at what was the largest gaming convention was a pointless title directed at the casual audience and morons in general.

Quoted from GameStop's website: Musicians in your band jam by simply playing their instruments to the beat of a song or by improvising to their heart's content. Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. No matter what you do, Wii Music automatically transforms your improv stylings into great music. There are no mistakes-just playing for the pure joy of playing.

That is why we hate Wii Music.

I think we could save some of the hate if they don't try to sell it as a game so much as a toy. Don't sell it for full Wii game price, and people won't be able to say it's a horrible game. Plus, Nintendo fans were already extremely angry by all the announcements about non-hardcore gamers that Nintendo has been making.

Because that game pretty much was shit. I'm sorry but seeing Shiggy Miyamoto fellate the Wii remote to make music in the gameplay is just a shit idea, and more than anything, will mean MORE PLASTIC INSTRUMENTS. The only one that looks cool is the drums. rest are shit.

There is no clear cut definition between 'game' and 'toy'. Rather than questioning his statement and asking for a structured argument to support it, you just go straight for the jugular by calling him sad. However, if I were to make a distinction I would say that games have to be structured, with set rules and set rewards (as seen in the 'star rating' system seen on Guitar Hero etc). Toys generally have no defined purpose at the point of creation. Since I doubt that Wii music will have a similar system of 'required performance' and rewards, it is more a toy than a game.

That and the fact that they seem to be determined to only use public domain music.

I play music, drums, guitar (5 string and bass), piano and saxphone (lol, not very well) and I assure you I don't generally make stiff up (besides drums and guitar) the controls look sunintresting and boring.Theres no realy structure, no aim to it. It'd be fun for all of 5 mins if its like the E3 shown version.
I play drums, saxophone, and piano and am picking up bass. I do a whole lot of just playing what comes to mind. I can see the game being good if you don't look at it the way you would look at any other rythme game. As long as all your trying to do is make something sound good, it could be a fun game. But then again i suppose ill see when i get it or at least watch a couple of reviews for it.

We hate Wii Music because it's a sorry excuse for a game. Why pay $100 beautiful Australian dollars to play air guitar with a wiimote in one hand and a nunchuck in the other when you can do the same thing by loading a song (any song for that matter) into windows media player for free?

Most of the other instruments look weak as well. Saxophone is just pressing buttons (Random buttons, The same button, the game doesn't care). Same with the trumpet, and while drumming is probably the strongest of them, but it still looks like you could just flail wildly and still get a good result.

In Guitar Hero you have to match button presses to the screen prompts. Singing in Rock Band forces you to alter the pitch of your voice. These are challenges, and once you overcome a challenge you feel good. Wii music is so round edged that it's impossible to fail. Why keep playing when you know that you can just shake the controller and do just as well as if you'd put in the effort.

It'll be one of those toys that kids get at Christmas and are done with before lunch.

As Yahtzee would say; "don't hold high expectations for any game, if they're good great, if they're not, you get the satisfaction of knowing you're better than fanboy twats".
Fixed for you, I couldn't resist.

On topic: It looks shit because it's another casual game, therefore it's going to be like just like the rest of the shit that's sapping the life out of Nintendo. Plus at E3 we were expecting more than just another toy.

This.

The fact that Nintendo was sorely lacking "Hardcore" titles (IE Mario, Zelda, Metroid, the works) we were hoping for a huge announcment (Kid Icarus anyone?) but instead we got Wii Music.

It's the fact that Nintendo is trying to ride the Wii Music horse to success that's pissing us off! I personally don't care if it's not a "game" or a "tool", it looks interesting, but what's pissing me off is that Nintendo is trying to pass this off as a "hardcore" title to us when we're getting another way to flail the Wiimote around.

That's not to say it won't be fun, but it is to say that Nintendo is screwing us over.
