Why have/want children?

As I've grown older, I've noticed the tremendous pressure from society to have kids, but, so far, I've only come up with selfish reasons as to why someone would actually WANT them (I.E. living on through your child after your death, gaining a kind of continuity for yourself, having someone to take care of you in old age, ect.). My parents were unable to give me an explanation, saying that I'd only understand the motivation once I got older(when I was <13 years old) or married (Now), and I've gotten similar explanations from other couples I've met (and gotten some of the selfish ones listed above), but something tells me that there must be a (if not some) clear, non-selfish reason(s) for wanting children. So, whith all other resources exhausted, I've come to the internet to ask:

Why have/want children? What is your motivation?

Note: For those of you who don't want kids (myself included) please do not post in this thread. We can find just about all the reasons for not wanting kids on TLC, Lifetime TV, any jr. high level or above Home Ec. class, or a quick visit to either a movie theatre, airplane, or department store kids section.

Second Note: I searched and found nothing. If this has been done before, please post a link to the original thread.

I want kids because I'd like to raise them to be a benefit to society. Then I could laugh in anyone's face who raised a bad kid and tell them that I did better.

Deep down, I'm not too sure. My conscience, or whatever you want to call that voice in my head, says I would be a good dad and love my kids, so I figure why not. He's always looked out for my well-being before, so why not trust him now?

The good feeling of raising a person. Of giving them food and clothing and etc always hits people. Plus people like to have children. It makes them feel good saying "thats my son/daughter."

But, what if their child is a failure? What if he gets arrested, or is just an overall delinquent? I wouldn't want to be the father of a child that gets arrested, doesn't try in school, or other things of that nature.

I don't want to raise children in a world as corrupted as this one. The only thing that would make me want to do so is if there was a communist revolution.

And since you asked, no, I will not shut up about that.

You always hope the child would turn out well. If it doesn't then you feel bad. Its a risk.
EDIT: Also just loving the child is enough for some people. Or knowing the child loves you back. Even then its not always the case.

There should be a search bar badge. Then people would check for similar topics all the time. No badge if you manage to repeat a thread within your first twelve months of being a member.

Maybe because raising children is a great experience, and nothing compares to it. But being mature enough to handle it is what should be a deciding factor.

And as of right now I don't want kids, but I posted in this thread anyways, whatcha gonna do?

So that they can become critical narcissist's who only find solace in making exceedingly pointless forum threads like this one.

Kids are an investment. If I have a daughter now, in 15 years hot high school girls will be sleeping over at my house on a weekly basis.

We could make a badge called "Meine Suche Riegel!". You'd get it for being a Search Bar nazi and making a minimum of one useless post that has the words "Use the search bar" or "This is definitely been done" in the same sentence. Come on guys, do we really need this? Do we seriously need useless posts that are stupider than a youtube post? I propose that we start banning people for being a search bar Fuhrer... No warnings, nothing. You do it once, you get banned for a few days.
Without the so called "search bar nazis" we would still be getting endless repeat threads.

If people check the bleedin' search bar before posting then we wouldnt have this problem. A Useless/repeat thread is worse than a useless post. Use the grey matter here please.

It takes longer to proof read then it does to use the search bar.
