Now please, before you comment, read what I have written below. I'm not starting a flame war, just stating my opinion, lets get some honest conversation out of this
.
Now, of course everyone will have their own opinion about Apple, mostly you love them or hate them. And me personally, I don't hate them, but I do dislike them quite a lot...
I have always used PCs for a lot of my daily life, internet, work, games, you name it. My usual opinion of Apple isn't one of a normal PC gamer type, I don't immediately hate on anyone who uses them, I don't hate them, it's Apple I have the problem with. I've never really had the chance, nor wanted to buy a Mac, but today while walking with my friends we went past an Apple store and decided to go in, mostly because of boredom.
The thing that really saddens me about Apple is that (for me anyway) it seems that they are OK with charging the extortionate amount of money they do for their products. Now, some of their products i'm fine with, like the iPod, but when I see for example a mac book pro being sold for over £2000 when its constituent parts only cost half the price, I really wonder how Apple can justify this, or are able to convince consumers to buy it.
My friend who was with me in the store genuinely asked one of the employees of the store what the difference between an iPod touch and an iPad was, he literally said, they're fundamentally the same, except the iPad has a bigger screen and has 3G. However, even when I see an iPad I really want to own one.
The last point on my very, very long list of points (sorry about that), is how Apple manage to release a new version of the same product every year, (I wonder how many people wont be 'cool' because they own the iPad 1 instead of the iPad 2).
I think a lot of it stems down to popularity and style, after all they are fundamentally key to social standings (especially at high school, you always want to be with the cool kids). Somehow Apple have harnessed the 'cool' factor, realised that they have, and so are able to charge insane prices for products, release essentially the same product each year, and still make tons of sales.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Have I been too harsh, or are there other factors I missed?
Anyway, rant over (finally), I wasn't expecting to write that much but more came to mind as I wrote. Just to clarify, I'm not a PC fanboy, I have my annoyances with them too (which I wont go into), but going into the Apple store today made me mad, and I needed to vent.
