Now please, before you comment, read what I have written below. I'm not starting a flame war, just stating my opinion, lets get some honest conversation out of this :p.

Now, of course everyone will have their own opinion about Apple, mostly you love them or hate them. And me personally, I don't hate them, but I do dislike them quite a lot...

I have always used PCs for a lot of my daily life, internet, work, games, you name it. My usual opinion of Apple isn't one of a normal PC gamer type, I don't immediately hate on anyone who uses them, I don't hate them, it's Apple I have the problem with. I've never really had the chance, nor wanted to buy a Mac, but today while walking with my friends we went past an Apple store and decided to go in, mostly because of boredom.

The thing that really saddens me about Apple is that (for me anyway) it seems that they are OK with charging the extortionate amount of money they do for their products. Now, some of their products i'm fine with, like the iPod, but when I see for example a mac book pro being sold for over £2000 when its constituent parts only cost half the price, I really wonder how Apple can justify this, or are able to convince consumers to buy it.

My friend who was with me in the store genuinely asked one of the employees of the store what the difference between an iPod touch and an iPad was, he literally said, they're fundamentally the same, except the iPad has a bigger screen and has 3G. However, even when I see an iPad I really want to own one.

The last point on my very, very long list of points (sorry about that), is how Apple manage to release a new version of the same product every year, (I wonder how many people wont be 'cool' because they own the iPad 1 instead of the iPad 2).

I think a lot of it stems down to popularity and style, after all they are fundamentally key to social standings (especially at high school, you always want to be with the cool kids). Somehow Apple have harnessed the 'cool' factor, realised that they have, and so are able to charge insane prices for products, release essentially the same product each year, and still make tons of sales.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Have I been too harsh, or are there other factors I missed?

Anyway, rant over (finally), I wasn't expecting to write that much but more came to mind as I wrote. Just to clarify, I'm not a PC fanboy, I have my annoyances with them too (which I wont go into), but going into the Apple store today made me mad, and I needed to vent.

I don't hate Apple.

I just hate hearing people explain to me how Macs are better, despite having to use somekind of Windows emulator to do what they like using a computer for.

Even if they have some good points, I don't care, stop tyring to convert me. It feels like the console fanboy wars.

Apple make good products, it's just that none of them are computers.
You know what, you are actually spot on, they do everything else pretty well. I never thought about it but most of the items i'm ranting about above are their computers. And i genuinely thought the "This changes everything. Again." tag-line was them being serious lol. Maybe I should reconsider.

I don't really like Apple, but there ok. There a massive marketing success story, which is of course a reason to hate them as all there products are ridoucsly overpriced and overhyped, but there App store is great (ok most of the apps aren't apple, but without Apple they wouldn't exist.)

You hit the nail on the head, however, I was under the impression that these were pretty much the standard reasons for disliking Apple. Have you not heard anyone express these opinions before?

Apart from the insane prices and the hype it has always been their costumer policy I really hated.

I was once this close to getting an iphone just because of all the possibilities of the apps but then there were these stories about Apple locking devices because costumers used jailbreak on products they paid for.
Now I know this has been settled in court and everything but still... I don't think they'll ever get my money.

Most of the time I hear people complain about Apple it's just because they're PC fanboys or go along with the hate. Most of what I hear consists of "Apple are for fags" and the like. I have heard some of these opinions before, but as I said, just needed to vent some annoyances, and I also thought it may get some discussion going on here, as this seems to be a place free of trolls and haters mostly :p.

The problem that I have with Apple is that they feel the need to make their own plugs and file formats. I mean really, why can't I just use a standard USB cable, Apple? Why did you make that ridiculous looking flat thing I have to plug in?

One time, I was in a grocery store with a friend. I was thirsty, and we were passing by the water rack. Without paying attention, I reached over and grabbed a bottle. My friend went nuts, saying how I clearly needed to pay attention and that I grabbed a bottle that cost twenty cents more than an equivalent bottle, how I was encouraging price gouging, and how "Evian" (the water brand) spelled backwards is "naive".

I found this hilarious, because she owns a Mac.

But yeah. I dislike Apple because of the incredible price gouging, the stupid restrictions on their products, and the high ratio of intolerably smug fanboys they have.

I don't dislike Apple products per se, I have two iPods, the Shuffle and the Nano, (with the shuffle being used the most) but I don't like them charging ridiculous prices for their products, and I don't really like the iPhone (I don't like touch phones in general), but apparently it had some design flaw that occured because you "held the phone wrong" or something. If I ever went for a touch phone, I would either go for a htc, or the Blackberry torch. I also don't like the people who look down on me for having an acer laptop and for not showing any desire or inclination to get a mac or an iPad. One of my acquaintances is a huge fan of Apple. They seem to have it all, the iPods, the iPhone, the mac, the iPad etc and doesn't comprehend that Apple products are not for everyone. Thankfully those types of people are few and far between, at least in my experience.

I respect Steve Jobs as a businessman for selling last year's junk with last decade's technology to people for next year's prices. Coincidentally, I hate Apple and dislike Steve Jobs for the same reason.

I'll enjoy my PC and the freedom that comes from owning it, because as we all know, you never really own an Apple product, you just pay retarded amounts of money to have Steve Jobs micromanage you while simultaneously jerking off to pictures of his products.

I don't mind them re-releasing their products every year; you only buy when your current thing is really old, out of date or doesn't work any more.

That they charge huge prices for their stuff is annoying, but I could name a dozen other companies that do it too.

The one thing that really gets me is that you have to upgrade the OS for a mac computer every year, otherwise it's very, very quickly outdated. I run OS 4.11, and I can't use half the features or play half the games that a recently made mac could, whereas Windows XP is still running, and fully supported by Microsoft.

I think that was only the jailbreaks that let you do illegal things, like download apps for free etc.
Otherwise, it just voided the warranty.

I've a friend who is a computer programmer, and he loves Apple because he says their Operating System is miles better than Microsoft, and he's always doing crazy things to his Mac and ranting about how awesome it was, and you couldn't pull it off in Windows Vista, (although since Windows 7 came out he hasn't done this in a while, it obviously must be capable of the same things as SnowLeopard or Lion-O or whatever the latest Mac OP is.)

i just switched from a windows based laptop to a macbook pro. i think it was a decision well made, because of the battery life the power of the notebook and the form factor is just amazing. ohh and because it just works, i know however its not for everyone so the only time ill talk about it is if someone is looking for a new notebook and even then all ill say is yeah check it out. With the inflated prices, i kinda feel that its worth it because ill get years out of my macbook and only 9months - a year out of a windows based laptop before they become obsolete. (and yes i know there is the yearly apple product update but 99% of the time its not worth the upgrade)

EDIT:

Apple is alright, I just despise Macs with a burning passion. Having been a PC user since birth, I saw that my sister had gotten a macbook. I immediately was skeptical but thought I'd give it a shot. Really bad idea. I could not, for the life of me, find the program files (To see if I could steal their Adobe collection), which is usually given the "You're just not used to them yet" remark. But why would Apple boast about their user-friendliness when I can't find it out in a fairly new Mac.

Along with that is there is no Right Click. Yes yes I know you can still buy a two click mouse, but the laptops and such force you to either live with one click or buy an attachment.

Pretty much the only purpose I see in a mac is that it's shiny.

I see Apple as the sort of designer brand. I think you can liken Apple to Prada or Gucci...I think...I know little of designer brands but Apple definitely seems to be produced for those people who are comfortable in the upper/ upper-middle classes. Not that there's anything wrong with that since elitism is born out of capitalist societies like ours...I think...I'm sorry, I'm mostly talking out of my ass. Short version: Apple = expensive. You can get the same types of things by other developers/ companies but Apple also = status symbol (like the aforementioned Gucci stuff)

I have a macbook(white) and while I don't hate pc's they just seem to die on me, while my mac has lastest 3X longer then my other computers,

I'd say it takes a certain type of person to like macs, most people grow up on pc's, but more importantly, Who the hell cares?

I have to say I am impressed with the op, your one of the few people who I have come across that has managed to say something negative about apple without being an ass or spewing the same uniformed crap as most people do.

I use a mac and a PC on a regular basis currently I own a PC, a laptop, a macbook and an imac, and to be honest while I do prefer macs, I will admit that they are expensive compared to a PC. But one thing people forget to point out when they say you can buy a PC with similar spec for less is the overall quality of the product, in my experience apple products are well built and well designed, especially the keyboards, mice and monitors the laptops are as well. This is where a lot of the expense comes from, its the same reason people spend a lot of money on a nice car even if you an get a faster one for less.

I do agree with the point of the cool factor though, owning an iphone seems to be the in thing these days event thought most people have only bought one because other people have. I see so many customers with them at work it really is disappointing, chances are most of them don't even know how to use one.

I do think apple gets a lot of unnecessary hate though most PC users have never used a mac or any other Apple product but they insist on talking crap about them and the people that use them. Then after using the Apple products they decide that there actually quite good, this has happened to me on several occasions.

Part of their success comes from marketing, for instance I am looking at getting the ipad2 shorty after its released in the UK. I have looked into products from other company's, one being the Motorola Xoom and well they just didn't grab my attention I watched the videos related to the product and well to be honest I was none the wiser. Its not Apples fault other company's don't know how to market their own products or just copy Apples.

One thing I do really hate though is that they don't seem to push gaming on Macs, even though a lot of people would buy one if there was more quality games that performed well on lower end Mac products, without having to use bootcamp.

TLDR: Their really the same as most company's they have products that some people like and others don't they just know how make appealing products and how market them, personally I like the mac OS and mac products in general but i don't like the iphone. More people should use their products before making comments about them.

one thing I hate is apple wont make (or let others) drivers for other GPUs etc. I wanted to partition my rig with a MAC OS and Win7 but I need to find third party drivers for my mobo, GTX480 etc etc.

Thats MY major hate of them. (and their prices are a bit far-fetched)

I really hate Apple. They just take an idea, make it shiny, and over price it. Sure, they are perfect for people who are looking for a simple device, but the item is a huge buzzkill for people who actually know what they're doing with technology.
