Why I Love Spider-Man
And why you might feel the same way

I shall make this clear, and obvious in case a few people have not gotten it by now. I love Spider-Man. It is a passive, stalker-type love, with me merely making a passing glance and taking a few pictures, then sneaking off and holding the pictures to my heart.

But why?
Simple.

Nerd = Hero
Yes, there are countless many other heroes that we can sympathize with, those that we can really get behind (Who doesn't love Rorschach?), but Spider-Man is also Peter Parker. Peter Parker is a nerd, and I am proudly one as well.
But it's the nerdiness of him that makes him so great. He finally has the power to make a difference, to be a hero, to be someone great and bold, and it's empowering to us, the readers, when we get behind him, when we root for him, because for all we care, he's exactly like us.
Except he can crawl on walls.
Another reason why I love him so...

Morality
Let us face the facts, when you're a kid or teen, you'll probably have one of those teachers or special people that will come into your classroom and tell you to take responsibility for your actions, to be nice to others, and to try and do good things. But you didn't listen. It was too formal to be taken in seriously, and thus you ignored it. But then you read comics, you read all sorts of comics, and you always eventually come up across the first Spider-Man one, or at least it's basic story... We all remember Uncle Ben. The proud man he is. We remember how he was killed too. He was killed because Peter didn't take responsibility. When you're a small kid, reading what seems to be an innocent comic about a man who is like a spider, and that comes up... it hits hard. You suddenly realize that you must be accountable for everything.

The Movies Are Cool Too
While they are no where near as good as "Batman Begins", "The Dark Knight", "Watchmen", and "V for Vendetta" when it comes to comic book films, you have to admit that the Spider-Man movies are actually pretty good. Yes, even number 3, although that was a bit... stupid at some parts.

At the end of the day, this is merely just a nerdy rant about a childhood hero.

Spider-Man was a great comic to read growing up and I've enjoyed most of Spider-Man's story lines even up to the Civil War. Personally though, I've always liked Deadpool more than Spider-Man, but that's just me.

I've never actually read any comics with Deadpool in them, but I hear he is a rather good character.

He's funny as hell and he's a big reason why the Marvel wasn't taken over by the Skrull during Secret Invasion.

Spider-man has always been a popular character because he's very identifiable. there's a ton of kids out there who can relate to him. he's got girl troubles, he's got family troubles, he's got money troubles, he's got bully troubles (ok not for a long time) and he's just a normal guy that we've grown up with

as for the movies the biggest complaint i heard was "omg he's so whiny in the movies" and like a lot of statements like that the first thing out of my mouth was "have you ever read any Spider-man comics?" and invariably the answer was always "no i just watched the cartoons" or they read one or two stories. i did collect Spider-man on and off and he's always been one of my favorite heros

He was alright, I guess.
I always liked Thor and Iron Man better.
And Deadpool.

Stan Lee is amazing at making characters you can relate to.

He's one of my favorite creative minds.

I agree whole heartedly.
One of the big reasons I like Spiderman is because he often defeats his foes with something clever. He's not like the Hulk, just smashing til there's no more smash to be had, or Superman, who's in-fuckin-vincible. He has to canoodle and think his way out of things.
Its the same reason I love Batman.

I never got to read the comics myself but would have loved to. I grew up watching the Spider-man cartoon though and played almost all the Spider-Man games that came out at the time. He's just an awesome character. He's got problems people can relate to, unlike some. *Cough*Superman*Cough*

Part of me didn't want to read this, but the formatting of your post puts countless topics to shame. And I'm glad I did ^_^
There's not a single part of that post I don't agree with, Spiderman is freaking awesome.

Not to mention the games were really fun, Spiderman 2 in particular for me. I loved swinging through New York and finding the hidden quotes from Stan Lee.

I somewhat remember there being a disc with a bunch of Spider-Man comics on it.

Yeah but he's also funny and wisecracking in the heat of battle, not a deadpool style insane rambling but more a quick pun here or light hearted commented there. Like at the end of Secret Invasion (paraphrase)

Thor: We fight until we gain a victory free and true!
Ares: Aye brother!
Spiderman: Aye brother? So that's what your meant to say in moments like these, I could never pull that off.

Deadpool is cooler
