Question seems to explain itself.
I don't see why everyone hates it. I thought that it was good, apart from the fact that the plot is a little weak, and that there weren't any dedicated servers for the PC.
Why's everyone hating on it?

The game has sold millions of copies, and as the follow up to CoD4 it has a lot to live up to, so of course some people arent going to like it.

Personally i love it, but it is not as good as CoD4.

It pretty much happens with every popular game. No matter how good it is people will feel an urge to hate it just to promote themselves as a "proper gamer". Elitism mostly.

There are a few minor problems with the online balance but it is what it is, a loud action movie style game. Complaining about the plot being the way it is is like complaining about 'The Sun' having tits on page three, it's to be expected.

Definitely and sadly, this.

I recently played it with a friend on his PS3 - I'd previously tried it on PC, I found it rather underwhelming considering what it's been rated (it still feels like an updated CSS with perks).

Mind you, I personally prefer more strategic shooters, rather then the tactical ones - mind you I also prefer more arcade-y shooters (UT 04/UT3) over Modern Warfare-esq shooters.

I'm not hating it at all! I agree with you man. I'm all achievement's done, and clocked in at more than 200+ hours in multiplayer so far. It's defiantly my game of the year and when I get my 360 back from the fixers, I'll be back on for the new multiplayer maps and the next 200+ hours.

The single-player is short and the multiplayer is slightly unbalanced

but because it's popular, it is therefore the worst game ever to crawl out what ever dark, slimy pit it came from

It was an alright game, just not worth the hype that was given. I bought it, beat it and shelved it, haven't touched it in a month. Now Mass Effect 2, on the other hand, is living up to the hype for me. Gotta love mail orders that ignore the Time Sensitive Sticker on the box, I got my copy today

Well, its too popular and people like to distance themselves from such things, as much as we are social creatures and like to belong to groups, we also feel a strong urge to be individuals do something to stand out. It really has nothing to do with gaming elitism, it happens with music, movies, comics, sports, politics, all sorts of things... Besides, why is it so hard to believe that someone really does not like it? Does everybody have to like a fancy shooter?

The main reason I can think of is the fact it sold a rediculous amount very quickly. Some people just don't like the mainstream.
Personally, I love it, even if the single player campaign was really short...

Unbalanced weapons, lag, no dedicated servers and hackers. Also, the stupid kill streaks. instability of the party and match making systems (and the game tbh iw4mp.exe crash on every 2nd hosting wtf seriously...)
edited to save me some extra typing (I so much don't mind the kill streaks).

Also since when I finished SP first time around till last night Shepard has lost his eyes and I have invisible guns on some parts of the early levels o.0

Shiny graphics is all it has going for it. And to put those in they had to make it a 7-hour game. Bottom line: the game is just praised far too much for how bad it is. That's why I hate it. The exact same reason that I hate There Will Be Blood and Twilight.
I know that it's been praised massively, but I really liked it.
Why hate something because everyone else thinks it's great? Although I hate Twilight, not because people love it, but because it sucks anus.

Its not elitism if someone doesn't like it its perfectly reasonable, the games shooter aspects are great fun the guns feel like they should and there is a decent ability to take cover and navigate reletively complex terrain and it really does look beatuiful, granted, but it is definately not a game without fault

[SPOILERS]

The single player campaign was alright it wasn't anything special there was far too much focus on the specticle which didn't really hit me as hard as it should have done because they just went overkill, shooting civilians? yes I guess thats a bad thing but you've formed no attachment to the character, although I assume this is why the game kills off most of the playable characters in the game, it all felt very formulaic and it got tiring I didn't find the campaign exciting I just found it frustrating especially all the times that the game takes control of your character. There were some fun missions I can't deny that I did like the snow mission up until the snow mobile section. Which took me a few attempts until I just waited for soap to get shot, what really is the difference between a flashbang and a large explosion when it comes to distraction? Basically the problem is that MW2 takes too much of control over the players actoins for the sake of specticle.

And multiplayers problem is that it continually favours the better players. The RPG style upgrades system means that good players get better stuff meaning that less good players can't even balance the odds because their weapons aren't as good. The Killstreak bonuses also mean that if a side is loosing then there is almost no hope for them to be redeemed and it means that if someone gets enough cheap kills through camping that they can easily continue camping.

Now it is tempting just to say the game sucks but its not true, there are sucky features but no games perfect its just very disappointing when the majority seem to be trumpeting its awesomeness. I do actually enjoy multiplayer and special ops is simply awesome fun but it is not the god of gaming as seemingly advertised.

The game was ok, i think. However, the story was short, the spec ops was meh, and the multiplayer was really the only good thing about it. But they had stupid killstreaks, and the guns were pretty unbalanced. When i started playing multiplayer i was always owned by either an Ak-47, Akimbo Models, or ridiculous killstreak rewards (chopper gunner). Sorry but me and my supposedly cap gun cant take on a real gun.

The campaign was short and dull, the multiplayer was very tedious and the co-op is just the single player with a friend.

I don't hate MW2. I'm simply not interested in the game's genre (multiplayer FPS) and think it's derivative and bland. What I do hate is IW's stance towards the PC as a platform, which also extends to Activision. This is why I will not be purchasing any Activision products in the forseeable future (with the exception of Blizzard games, if they ever finish any).

People get too 'involved' in it. People have stopped buying other games for the fear that "it just won't be as good as MW2."
