Why is Lara so filthy?

Maybe she's just so fastidiously clean herself she can't understand how someone could get that dirty.

You get that dirty from playing ruby in the rain for few minutes let alone fighting for your life in jungle for days/weeks and even small forehead cuts bleed a lot.
So no I don?t think they are putting it on too heavy. Besides she doesn't stay that dirty all the time.

I like the dirtiness. In a way, it makes her even more attractive knowing she's a human capable of actually sustaining injuries and getting covered in dirt and mud. The word "filthy" is relative, too. Have you ever been on a camping trip, or have you ever gutted your own deer if you're a hunter? Considering the kinds of things she does, Lara actually looks pretty darn clean.

realism. I don't know what else to say here. It's realistic. You get chased in a jungle and attacked and almost raped....see how clean you are.

yeah this, this summer after a day on the jobsite, it would look like i walked through a damn tornado of dirt and flying sand, when in reality i was just in average 100 degree weather walking around. I can only imagine being in a dense jungle running for your life from god knows what.

I realize a lot of it is actually cuts and blood, but seriously. She looks like she hasn't bathed in months. Is there a reason for this, or are they just going a bit heavy on the grit factor?

She's crashed and abandoned all on her lonesome in the jungle on her first expedition, how gooda' condition do you expect her to be in exactly? You have read the story premise yes? People get waaay muddier than that playing rugby. People get muddier than that falling over in the forest on a ramble.

Lara isn;t even that dirty, for someone who "hasn't bathed in months" she actually looks incredibly clean.

This comes from falling in a good mud puddle and turning over. The real question we should be asking is "How does she stay so clean?" If they're going to go for realism, may as well go all the way.

I have to agree. if it were Lucus Croft no one would care about his dirty, i've been surving by the skin of my teeth appearance...although the near rape would freak people out waaaay harder.

This new Lara looks soft, vulnerable, and more approachable. I just want to protect her, rescue her.

The second pic is where she really looks like she hasn't bathed in a month, its the hair, that island has not been kind to it. Could just be from having not given it proper attention for a couple of days. My hair looks like that when I wake up in the morning, except shorter, and manlier.

That last pic looks like someone, or something, that she was standing next to is no longer among the living. The open mouth that looks like a cross between horror and crying, the downturned eyes which appear to be closed, and the downward slant of the shoulders indicating shock or acceptance of death.

That first pic looks like she crawled out of a play crash a few hours ago, and hasn't cleaned herself up yet. The relaxed, but curious look on her face, the presense of a fire nearby, she looks like she was just about to take account of herself, and realize what she needed. Ofcourse somebody would notice the fire and prevent her from getting cleaned up, aside from the fact that she appears to be in a cave without water nearby.

The second pic is obviously promotional material. There she stands, triumphant, the chaos behind her makes you wonder what happened, and makes her truimph even more clear. No longer an innocent teenager, this is now a woman warrior. She looks like the type of person who would decide to walk into Mordor. I can just see her saying in the next few frames "Do you worst." The coldness in her eyes, you'd expect her family and friends to hug her, and her not hug them back.

My question is why is that strap passing through her shirt?

Just means it is an in-game screenshot. Clipping is still a problem for modern games, they'll probably fix that before release.

I think it's just another part of the new game's approach to avoiding the "sexist" portrayal of the older Lara Croft games. It replaces the "objectify women with big tits" with "beat the shit out of Lara and force attempted rape on the character in order to garner sympathy".

Still not a fan of this reversal. Its trading one form of sexism for another.

ugh..... people are still on about that "attempted rape" crap.

If you actually watch the scene to its fullest, it really isn't rape, or even really attempted rape for that matter. It's like, an attempt at an attempt of something that could maybe turn into rape if it goes the worst way possible.

Its not like they had thrown her on the ground and were attempting to pull off her pants or something, now THAT would be attempted rape.
