Why is "My Little Pony" so popular?

I think I can help with that. See, My Little Pony is really just this generations way of rebelling. We don't have the poignant social issues of the 60's or the sexual revolution taking place between then and about the 90's and people are looking for ways to rebel. By denying classic societal regulations about what 20 year old males like we have rebelled by not conforming to the societal norm, and thus placing us outside the common ideas and creating a 20XX counter-culture.

And it's pretty fucking cute, so that's something.
I don't think of myself of a rebel, I just like the show. It's cute, and a welcome distraction from problems faced in every-day life.
...
To be honest, my freind got me to watch an episode, and now I can't stop.

Well, You must understand I'm not trying to imply that everyone who watches it conforms to one archetype, I'm merely saying that for the most part this came about because people wanted to be different, or at least that's the most reasonable answer, and I tend to side with Occams Razor in Sociological issues.

I bet that more than half the people who say they like it, have never actually seen it. They just say they like it because they think it's a cool thing to say. It's not. It's a cartoon about ponies. There's nothing cool or interesting about it and they all know it.
Your blatant insults and generalizations are somewhat... distasteful. You might want to edit your post before people decide to verbally tear you apart about why what you said was complete baloney.

OT: Fun, cute animation. the characters aren't complete mary sues, and makes mistakes, but learn from them. It manages to be kid friendly, but not condescending and patronizing. It has nice little geek references, and just seems to have a universal appeal to it. It's a nice cartoon that's well done, but manages to keep an upbeat tone instead of getting into depressing comedy for the most part.

OT: Well, because people do. I do not, as it happens, but some people do. As for the obsession...I don't get it either. People are practically crusaders for the show. But then, I suppose the same could be said for almost any fanbase of any given show.

Would it really hurt you to do some personal research? When I wanted to learn more about the show I saw cartoons on youtube. Then I joined the group here. I started visiting equestria daily. I started creating a fan fic. I watched the older generation cartoons. Some real work here. You don't even have to do half the work i've done just use that search function in google.

So i'll tell you what I tell my 4 year old half sister. Stop being lazy and figure it out on your own i'm not going to do the work for you.

Oh, and what's a 'brony'?
Brony is the term that makes it okay to enjoy MLP.
I am amazed at the amount of people that get the term brony wrong, it is /b/rony as in a person from 4chan's /b/ that likes ponies.
Just because the slew of the internet was like zomg bronies sounds like bros who like ponies doesn't suddenly change the meaning of the word; it just means people are dense to what they are calling themselves.

Uhh no not really. It originated from somewhere else just meaning bro+pony. I remember all the people who complained that the Know Your Meme video got it wrong.

Broad generalizations are fine if your willing to follow through with them when the angry people come charging in. I'd like to point out that said cartoon about ponies is the only non-cynical show I've found that I like in nearly 5 years, and after dealing with my parents getting divorced among other thigns, it put a smile on my face.

You should watch a couple episodes yoruself to see why its so awesome ;)

Ohh... and as I promised earlier... *HUGS YOU* I will not stoop to insulting!!!

If you look at any word tis definition changes over time. Example: fag, gay, douche bag in which 1 meant a number of thigns, gay originally meant happy, and douche bag initially was a term for a vaginal cleaning object.

Thus a brony, as urban dictionary shall point out:

A name typically given to the male viewers/fans (whether they are straight, gay, bisexual, etc.) of the My Little Pony show or franchise. They typically do not give in to the hype that males aren't allowed to enjoy things that may be intended for females.

Hmm... How to elaborate.

Remember Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends? Remember it being really good? Remember the exact same thing happening with that show?

You can see where this is going. It's good, good enough to even attract an older more mature audiance. The animation is also good, cute even, witch brings more appeal. They really take My Little Pony in a direction of 'likable' from it's previous 'For six year old girls'.

And yes, as it's been explained, a Brony is just a fun title for men who like My Little Pony. I think I recently heard a new term coined for females: Pegasistas.

So, as far as you simply not getting it, you will never get it. Just chalk it up to one of those things you can never understand why people could possibly like it.

Like Furries.

Didn't we just have this thread? The thread starter should definitely look through past threads for the answers that he seeks...

They like ponies. I am not intimidated by people who like ponies. If those were Nazi ponies, then I'd be worried.

The result is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, a well-animated, well-acted, well-written, funny, creative, friggin' adorable, and just awesome show.
I beg your pardon, "well-animated"?

From what I've seen of it, the quality of it's animation actually has LESS quality to it than previous iterations of My Little Pony television series'.

This recent one has this ugly "random shit at Cartoon Network"-quality to it (kind of like The Powerpuff Girls or Dexters Laboratory).

Im not going to argue the other points, but "Well-animated" it is NOT!
Actually, the animation is one of the more often-complimented parts of the show. I'm far from the only one. The only reason it has that look it because it's flash-animated, but if you take a look at it in action, you see that it's incredibly well-done flash animation.
Good example of the animation, Sonic Rainboom, not an easy feat with what they are using.

Good writing, lovable characters, nice animation, and quite a change of pace compared to the prison slop that is 95% of western animation.

Only a handful of shows in the last 5 years have really caught my attention to the point where I await for it to be on.
