Eh, I found them to be like a much less niche-Dragonforce (who effectively has one song that they mutate into slightly different sounding songs).

They have like three models for a song, and they mutate them. It's not that they're bad (well, ok, the lyrics are retarded, but I can ignore those if the instrumentation is good enough), but they're just so...bland.

On the other hand, I can thank Nickelback for being so bland as to force me to branch out a bit and eventually trip over a couple of my favorite groups ever.

It's kinda strange that I think Nickelback have become so "cool to hate" it has now looped and they might actually somehow have become cool to like again.

The people who find Nickelback terrible are the same people who haven't use public transportation in South America (with a few exceptions). Why I don't mind Nickelback music at all? because I have to deal up with this
I remember once driving around with a friend, and she was listening to a mix tape, funny enough I though it was just one band playing those tracks until I started hearing "Rockstar" by Nickelback.

I'm confused...you asked for lyrics that ppl didn't consider "cringeworthy", especially when viewed outside of the music they're usually associated with, but then you discount one example based on the singer's voice/vocal style.

how does the voice of the singer impact the worth of the lyrics?

the lyrics are either good or they aren't
Presentation, presentation, presentation. The best lyrics in the world can be completely destroyed should the background music be nothing but sirens, horns, and gunshots. same concept here, the screaming negates the music for me. And what I said was lyrics in general being used in everyday conversations, not just outside of the music they're associated with.
...Why do you want lyrics to be usable in real-life conversations in the first place?

That's like complaining that you can't use lines from most poetry in (anything but the most pretentious of) conversation. In fact, it's almost exactly the same thing.

And you're kind of contradicting yourself in the argument anyway - you said "find me ONE song that doesn't have lyrics that you can't help but laugh at if you heard them outside of the music", and then when the other guy provided a song, you couldn't get past the music, and thus ignored the lyrics. Also, out of interest; you clearly don't like screaming, but what's your stance on falsetto?

Also, here's a song which I think has very good lyrics - I'd be interested to hear if you agree.

As plenty above me have said, it suddenly seems to be 'cool' to go on about how bad Nickelback are. Thing is, despite considering myself a fan of Nickelback, I find it hard to defend them nowadays! Their last few albums have been pretty awful, the downward slope into near-self-parody starting with 'All The Right Reasons' in my opinion.

However, I still find myself listening to plenty of tracks from their earlier albums. 'The State' is vastly underrated with some cracking songs like 'Leader of Men', 'Breathe' and 'One Last Run', and Silver Side Up still stands up well.

It disappoints me where they've gone musically in recent years, but I'm just glad I got to see them live twice in some smaller venues while they were still good!

You really aren't getting what i'm saying, are you?First of all, I really don't care about lyrics, second of all, this whole thing was just a joke to see how far you would go. congratulations, you've proved to my entire soc/phil class that people on the internet either take everything too seriously, and the few times they don't they don't get the joke. And by the way, I lost five bucks because of you,my prof said you would pull Pink Floyd out of your ass eventually, I actually expected more songs then those two though. People just can't let anything go anymore can they?

Well first of all, I'm not the guy you were originally conversing with, I just decided to join in due to boredom. Apparently you haven't realised this.

Secondly, while I'm no expert on comedy, it's my understanding that jokes generally need humour. You need to get some of that.

Thirdly, well done to your prof, I guess. Now he has an extra 5 bucks. Woo?

And finally, you started a discussion on a thread. What did you expect to happen? Somebody responded to you, he was perfectly civil, and you were having a perfectly nice conversation. What exactly do you mean by "people can't let anything go anymore can they?" Was it another "joke"?

One good reason I've heard is because they sound like a swarm of bees.

But then again, that was in relation to this:

The lead singer makes me think of a current day Axl Rose. He has a short temper and seems like a guy I wouldn't want to spend more than 5 minutes with.

Speaking of Rose, why isn't he the target of hatred and rage? The guy's a rage-filled man-animal.

Basically every single song sounds very similar. You got the two base songs of fast and slow/sad and if you play any from that category over the top of one another it sounds pretty similar.

I think their two songs are good, but this shouldnt be possible to do with any bands songs... not to mention the 100% generic "Lets party and have a lot of sex while dabbling in drugs because we are ultra baddassitude" lyrics which serve only to irk me.
That video is pretty great, and yeah, that's why I don't listen to Nickelback, or Theory of a Dead Man, etc.
All of their songs are one of a small amount of themes, an attempt at something philosophical, saying how much your ex or girlfriend or significant other sucks, or partying and doing drugs and whatnot.
It just gets annoying hearing people completely buy into this kind of music, but I'm pretty neutral about it. There's just a lot better music out there
