Why is there hatred between other MMO's.

I have personally played many MMO's, and I have noticed there is always some hatred between them. Every time someone in a different game (say, EQ II), complained about something in game, someone would say something to the affect of , "Well you should have bought WOW instead." .In less than 5 seconds, there would be at least 20 replies saying how bad of a game WOW is, and how they are all snobs or something like that for playing it. Then on WOW, in the same situation, they would then begin to bash another game, claiming that WOW is nothing less than the second coming. Why can't all MMO players join together, in a show of unity and brotherhood, and begin spiting on lowly console gamers! (calm down. I'm only kidding :) ).

My question is this. Why the hatred ya'll?

Most people that play one MMO dont want other MMO's to become popular, so the MMO's they play wont become empty and they wont get called lame ducks.

Or maybe its just fanboyism.

My brother once said that they hate each other because "Their wasting the better part of their lives not getting laid, so they might as well try and prove to themselves they picked the best MUMORPAGAH! to waste thier lives on"

Indeed he is.
He is also apparently a hater of sunlight, hence his place as my avatar.
The anime just started on my country recently (somewhere around when the brothers get all mashed up when they fight the dude with the big X on the face for the first time) and theres so funny scene were Mustang in the middle of the rain(thats is name righ) is all high and mighty showing off, and his ready to use his powers till one of his helpers throws him down, and reminds him that his gloves wont work when they wet. And then he procceds into making a funny face which made me laugh for a good 10 minutes.(I mean...I wasnt expecting that at that time...)

Hmm derailing thread...

Its the same as the Xbox v PS war. Most people only get one, therefore they must either defend their choice or they just don't realized how one sided their argument is. Another factor might be that your better attuned to playing the first MMO. I have experienced this many times when WoW would stop working and i would play Maple Story or Rappelz or Shaiya. WoW is just easier for me.

because when people pay every month to play a game, they defend their choice with a passion.

mostly fanboyism. Think about it, if you've wasted years of your life playing a video game where you had to pay monthly for it, it better be the bestest out there.

unless it's runescape. there's no excuse then :p

^why I zone out what Dylan says^

But there's this wonderful thing called nationalism that we were taught since we were little, it is the belief that one group is any better than another.
This of course is human nature, so fighting it would be like fighting a black hole with bare fists

For me....

Cause you have to pay monthly for a game you own...

... That and now MMOs are just better ways to make money.. so now we'll be seeing more and more.

And I'm still angry that we'll be getting "The Old Republic" instead of "KOTOR III"... but.. I suppose I'll get over it.
