Pokeman are the animals of their worldand I guess for the sake of decency the battles end when the other pokeman passes out or loses consciousness.

Well some pokemon are just ment for eating, so I don't see over population to be a problem case and point

Vanillite. Yes. Yes it is...

I think they're running out of ideas over in Japan.
I know right? The only thing that would be more unoriginal for a pokemon would be a pile of slime, like some kind of pokemon made out of nothing but muck.
you know what would be even worse? if they totally redid specific pokemon out of laziness and only changed one small detail and tried to pass them off as "new pokemon"

In terms of human over-population this theory explains why there's no over population but also why Ash (a teenager), Gary, Brock and L.t Surge are the only "young" men you meet in the original Pokemon.

Also, Pokemon can be killed, just not in battles assuming you know when to stop attacking as this theory explains

They may in fact kill/eat each other in the wild.

Kanto is a rather messed up place when you think about it.

Well, they have restaurants dont they?
Magicarp sushi?
I'd buy that for a dollar.

In Lavender town you learn that Team Rocket killed a Marrowak that was protecting its baby. And in Gold and Silver a guy tries to sell you a Slow Poke tail for a snack. Those are both examples of Pokemon that have been killed (that last one is loose I know).

Ha ha, I always love critical analyses of my favorite TV shows and video games from childhood

Even Charizard's Seismic Toss can't kill the lowliest Rattata, they only faint, and that's nothing that can't be fixed by the Pokemon Center. However, apparently Pokemon do die because there is a Pokemon graveyard in Lavender Town. So it seems that the only way for a Pokemon to die is of old age, but at the same time they breed and expand in numbers. Imagine if you couldn't kill rats and pigeons in real life - they would soon be EVERYWHERE, eating EVERYTHING.
Because it is a video game.

I thought this would be obvious.

in D/P it,s implied people eat some Pokemon.
it,s also possible Pokemon in the wild have extremely short lifespans (with all those Pidgey,s I don,t think Caterpies live long.)

Funny thing about that is, Vanillite and his evolutions were the first ever Pokemon designed by an American.

Not even joking.

OT: OP, go read the manga. It's quite compelling and Pokemon are killed in battle. (Brock's Onyx was ripped to pieces for example.) The creator of Pokemon actually said it was closer to how he originally imagined Pokemon to be before it was turned into a children's game.
