"I'm gonna kick his ass" is tame compared to some of the things I've heard coming outta people these days. I think it's a power thing, they wanna feel tough.

So Escapist, have you ever noticed how so many peoples response is i am going to kick his ass? Or this or that, do people not realize that in real life things don't work like that! Let's here some of your stories about kids saying or doing or thinking stupid things.
It's a natural human response, even before we had words or society we had hitting people when they do something that you don't like, it's the oldest language out there.

factor in that kids are inexperienced in society and that they are filled with hormones, and sometimes they just respond with very basic human behavior

My favourite is when they are going to 'kick your ass' or 'beat the shit out of you' to somehow prove you are wrong or that their opinion is better than your's, as opposed to backing it up with facts and logical arguments like sensible people.

Well, it would slightly be related to what a kid could be exposed to. Though there'd be some sort of natural instinct in there somewhere, like when you'd fight with your siblings, it'd be interesting to see if kids would think of violence as a solution in an unviolent upbringing. Games are generally thought to increase violence, but all media would, as well as other people you can encounter. If you were to cut out any media, friends, parents, interaction with people who haven't been brought up the same way, and history books, I wonder how calm they'd be.

But yeah, tl;dr it's probably because they're exposed to it in so many ways it's just a common occurance.

Thank you sir, i am glad you made this point! See in real life violence is used by uneducated people and what is the result, they either go to jail or get taken to court and what not, You kicked his ass but he will get his revenge.. and his will be so much more sweet.

It's the quickest and easiest ways for short term problem solving. Kids don't tend to think as long term at a young age.

Lol i love your avatar.. and yes.. i don't think things through, i am tired and i am slow right now :D normally i am just a little bit faster :D. This made me think of a saying, that those who think they know it all know nothing and ever will, those that recognize there mistakes and how dumb they are will strive to learn more and become more intelligent.

I love how almost everyone here has looked down on violence as an act that only a boorish ape or mislead hormone swelled teen would do, where as in reality no one here would be above it if they ever found themselves in a situation where it is the best course of action.

You don't have to be a stupid hormone induced teen to act violently, only human.

OT: Possibly because up until recently violence was the answer to most major problems? History is full of violence solving problems and did so up until not to long ago, when our problems changed to economic and natural resource problems.

You know that is one of the most mature and open-minded replies I've seen on the internet.

*shakes hand back, I always call myself dumb and i always hear myself say, why the hell don't i know what this word means or what that means or why that happens, so i look it up and i learn, If i was a know-it-all i would just say well i bet that's the way it happened or i bet that's what that means, then i would never learn. We all have done this but some people do it a lot more then others, No one on this planet is stupid, everyone has some intelligence in some field, maybe even just talking to other people. I know you may say well there are some idiots who do drugs or kill people but, sometimes even they have the ability to be smart.

It's a kind of instant gratification.
Sometimes the opposing party doesn't want or care for a logical argument. Typically, you have to deal with another person's bull crap. If a kid is willfully an ass they probably don't care much for the repercussions. You get angry, and something about their smirks infuriates you. It seems to make more sense to literally wipe the smile off of their face than hoping they'll leave you alone if you ignore them or tell them to stop.

Anyways, it seems to serve better as a lesson to not fight when you're older.

I'm of the firm belief that a certain amount of violence is necessary at this point of human evolution. It's what keeps people in line. The basic understanding that if you're too much of a jerk-ass, at some point you're going to get punched in the mouth, and it's going to be VERY unpleasant.

I certainly don't think that it's always the answer or even the best answer. But as long as it's a potential answer, it will serve it's purpose.

Also, this. As much fun as it can be to belittle someone, point out the flaws in their logic, prove them wrong in every feasible way... sometimes, it's just more satisfying to see them suffer physically. And really, the instantaneous response is a very clear way of letting someone know, "you've just crossed a line. Whatever you just said or did was so far beyond acceptable that simply telling you isn't sufficient."

Hmmm... this ones got me thinking. I would say that people become more insipid insidious (subtly evil) as they become more educated, but things definitely escalate as people learn. Knowledge is power.(to some extent)

edit: sorry, wrong word

As "sad" as it may be, it is true. If violence doesn't solve your problem, you aren't using enough of it.

I actually made many friends through violence, either by protecting or beating up (Yes, I know it sounds stupid, but it's true). Violence shouldn't be so shunned as it is; Humans are rather violent by nature, and no matter how much we try to hide behind the curtain we call civilization, it doesn't change our primitive parts.

What I have learned, violence prevents people from being dicks. When you see the idiot kid who's an ass to everyone, he's the one who hasn't experienced violence.

This phrase slightly annoyed me. How can you deny the fact that a lot of humans solve their problem with violence in this "real life", and don't suffer consequences. You could try visiting Somalia, for example.

Even at this moment, there is violent problem solving going on right now. The citizens are using violence. Maybe you could tell them that it doesn't work in "real life".
