Why isn't there a licensing process for having children?

Really, why isn't there some kind of licensing process one must undergo to be able to 'legally' breed. To make sure you are fit to be a parent. You have to have one to drive...proof that you possess all the needed skills in order to operate a machine that has the potential to harm yourself or others. Well a parent can royally warp their kid over the years they have them, so why not a license to make sure you aren't going to turn your kid into a social misfit or something actually terrible, since that is just as much of an effect on another life as slamming someones car on the highway.

Because who seriously has the right to license life?
Nobody. Yes, people make terrible, terrible parents but the best we can do is educate them and then, if they fuck up massively, be prepared to take their children away from them, and raise them better.
Nobody has a guide to being a parent though, so really I give people a lot of leeway. But seriously, a government giving people a lisence to breed? That's quite possibly one of the most dangerous concepts ever.

Because it would never work.
People won't let others tell them they can't breed.
Even though in some ways it could make sense for it to be that way.

Oooh, don't start me off on this one! I live in a nice area, but by default all nice areas have council estates nearby full of people that shouldn't be allowed to breed... or at least should be capped at 1 kid.

Have you seen the film Idiocracy? This explains my toughts exactly.

It would never get enforced. People fuck all the time, and sometimes pregnancy happens unplanned, so what would the legal process be for that situation? Not all people are pro choice or would be comfortable getting an abortion. I guess you could legally take custody of the baby away from them, but I don't think a law like that would ever pass because 1: that would take a LOT of taxpayer money and 2: that sounds very authoritarian and that's looked down upon in lots of places.

Well would you be willing to blow countless dollars to start an agency to do this and let the government control breeding. I will agree with you that some people should be kept from reproducing, but to me the government already its has its hands in to much as it is.

Didn't National Socialist German Workers' Party try this one already? Or at least something like that? I heard it was one of their main policies, along with world domination and mass-murdering innocents because of their ethnicity.

Because having children is the main biological urge for human beings, and a licensing system wont stop that. Sorry.

Because no free society would stand for this.

And even if such a process existed, how would you fund it? How would you police this? What if someone breeds without a license? Do you put them in jail? What about the kid? Do you kill the kid because it wasn't licensed to live?

Before you say such stupid things, maybe you should put some thought into them.

Does Orwellian society mean anything to you?
We are already heading towards an Orwellian society. Well, more of a Huxley world, but close enough.

And the main reason it won't happen is because people don't want it to. The flaw with democracy is it assumes the majority desire is best for the society. But people want what is best for them, now. It's crude, but not TOTALLY inaccurate: democracy assumes logical people, but people, by and large, are stupid. Yes, it's flawed, unfortunately it's the only explanation I can think of for what is happening to Australian society.

All this is a digression. My point: people don't want it to happen, so it won't, regardless of the impact on society.

Yeah, lets license people to breed that way we can make sure they dont produce defective offspring. We could make a super race! Then we can blame everything on the Jews and.... oh poo this sounds familiar. Turns out I'm 70 years late to the eugenics party.

You cannot be serious. This is either someone who is incredibly, unimaginably moronic or a professional trolling attempt.

If it's the former I say this: you absolute tool. You think there should be a licence for breeding i.e. starting a family and continuing the human race? A right which you can't possibly refuse anyone? Of course parents warp their kids, THAT'S A PART OF THEIR JOB! How fucking stupid are you? Seriously.

If it's the latter, good show. You had me going.

EDIT: Just to add to that. I really, really hope this is a trolling attempt. No one can be that ridiculously stupid can they?

Small thing called human rights

Any attempt to control breeding would be controversal and inhumane. It may require measurements such as abortion, sterilization, castration e.t.c.

At the same time, I do wish that the government would make some kind of attempt to limit the amount of children that people have because a larger population has dangerous implications for the future.

Saying that though, it would have to be a world-wide effort in order to have any impact.

Offer people 5 grand to get sterilized.

I can guarantee that a large portion of the people who shouldn't be popping out kids would do it.

1.Unethical(maybe you should give parents an IQ test ?...)
2.Somebody would have to run this (courses,exams)/budget
3.Problem with demographics(people don't need a license to die)

Then people who really want kids would have them ... and then they would undergo sterilization.

I'm sure people would ***** about that too.

And as for the "human rights" arguments people are putting forward, with respect, I disagree. It's only considered a right because it is generally considered as one, not because of any particular reasoning. It's just a societal level of aborting a fetus when it's found it has a genetic and incurable serious condition.

I do recognise that this is a view most people disagree with. It's just my view.

Actually, China already has this system in place to reduce population growth.

It's a noble concept, but I've read 1984 and a license to breed seems to draw disturbing parallels. Not to mention, (in America anyway), the party that would dare suggest that would be out of power for a good long time.
