Why it should be considered canon
Some background... Bare with me, please...
I am a big fan of a BBCi Doctor Who animation called 'Shada', a remake of an earlier, unfinished Doctor Who episode of the same name. Now 'Shada' was originally billed as the series finale to the of series 17 of Doctor Who. Anoraks of the Who persuasion will instantly know that that is a 4th Doctor series.
'Shada' however never aired because of industrial action taken by the unions in the BBC which meant it was never fully filmed. And a darn shame it was too as it was an episode written by the late great Douglas Adams.
However, many Who fans still consider this episode very much canon as although incomplete, snippets of it exist and it was tied in with a later adventure, the five Doctors. But that's not what I'm here to talk about.
Personally I consider the Webcast remake version published by Big Finish productions as the canon. It was firstly re-written for the 8th Doctor but actually it linkz in with the original unfinished version of 'Shada' cleverly but also the five Doctors episode. The cast featured is canon with Leela Ward as Romana II, John Leeson in his infamous role as K-9, Paul McGann as the Doctor.
The script is faithful to the original with some minor adaptation for continuity's sake, and unlike most spin-off stuff, the continuity of the webcast 'Shada' has very be contradicted.
All in all, I love the webcast version so much I refuse it to be considered anything other than canon and a proper episode in it's own right and not tie-in stuff like most novels and audio books.
and now the discussion...
So, now you know why I consider the webcast version of 'Shada' as canon, is there something related to a favourite video game, television programme, series of books etc that you either consider as canon or think it should be.
Maybe it's a tie-in novel, a user created level, a user mod, or even a piece of fan fiction. Tell us about it.
