What he said ^^^^Chipperz said:Wow, people are being very... Hostile... Towards this. It's a design choice, and as far as I'm concerned, a damn good one. I'm taking it as proof that they give more of a damn about the storyline than pleasing what ammounts to a very small demographic - there are some games where I've thought "playing with a mate would be cool", but never "If I can't play this with a mate, I won't buy!"
It's not like Infinity Ward are just being assholes and saying "No Co-op at all", there IS co-op with the spec-op mode that I suspect will re-enact a lot of the main campaign yet keep it in rightly sized and easy to access packages that are easy for repeated challenges and to drop out as soon as you have reached your limits of concentration.
I can think of so many examples from COD4 where you can't have a 2nd person tagging along. Like young Price carrying his wounded commander out of the hot zone in Chernobyl, it would be too easy with co-op to just have one carry and the other shoot, removes all challenge and destroyed the carefully managed pacing.
And you can't have the 2nd co-op player be the "leader" as the leader is saying and doing things that control the pacing on the game that you won't get with a flesh and blood person at the controls.
I think IW should be applauded for nailing it perfectly, a dedicated and refined single player and in parallel a dedicated and refined co-op mode. Not that Treyarch are that bad, the did very well with WAW but not quite a classic.
