Why must games (particularly RPGs) be so fast-paced?

Because if you're in your 500th fight, you'll find that a slow RPG battle system will get on your nerves a lot.

A turn based RPG should have fast, and effective animations, so that the delay between turns is minimized. No freakin 7-minute-cutscene-animations (I'm lookin' at YOU sephiroth!)

I think he is more thinking along the lines of Temple of Elemental Evil, Baulders Gate and Icewind Dale games, and the fact that the only turn based RPGs coming out are mostly JRPGs many of which we don't get because they are never translated for western consumption.

I do miss the days of Black Isle etc I miss not being able to create an entire party and creating "themed" groups even bioware has ditched this for a more "cinematic" story telling dynamic and faster flowing gameplay. Personally I feel there is room for both but the sad thing is most publishers only want big buck profits and turn based RPGs are more of a steady seller than block buster.

Its because every publisher is chasing the Fable/Call of Duty audiences. Any chance you might enjoy anything cerebral and you're out of luck.

So at least for now, we're stuck playing sub standard amalgamations of shooter/action with some RPG elements mixed in.
