Why no < or no >, Escapist?

I know that this is very trivial, but why aren't there next or previous buttons to click on when perusing the different thread pages? I always find myself looking to click one, but then I remember I have to click the page.

I know that they have the ability because when the pages get to be too many, there is a button to press to get to a different block of pages. I have always been curious though.

I like this system, having a next or previous button would be redundant seeing as you can see what page you are on and just click the next one; you'd basically have four buttons for two functions.
